Why couldn't Mary Pierce come back to the top-10?

Serena, Justine, Lindsay, Kim... They were all injured for a long time but they all came back to play on a high level again.

Mary Pierce was a top-10 player before she got injured in 2001. However, she never returned to the top-10, not even top-20 I think!

What's the difference between Mary and these other players?

Mary relied one brute force and pace of shot when she was a top player, i think in the time she was off the tour, quite a few more power players joined the tour, also lower ranked baseliners have started to cope with power much better.... Mary was never fast enough, so when she returned to the tour and her shots started to come back she was not fit enough to get them..... i think,

Mary also had a lot of problems staying healthy. Once she would recover from one injury and start to win again, she would be forced out with some new injury.

I just have to echo what others have already said. Mary has not returned to near the top because she has not dedicated herself enough to being fitter. Even much of her intensity seems to be missing.

But it's not too late; I just think Mary needs to be more dedicated to being a dominating presense.
