French Open: Who would win-Golovin vs. Sharapova

Golovin has played very well on clay this week, I do hope that she can do the same at the French Open.

It would be great to see Golovin play Sharapova. With the French crowd cheering her on. I think that Golovin would beat Sharapova.

Sharapova was not that greatest on clay last year. I do think Sharapova is better on hard court.

I do think this would be an interesting match.

Sharapova would beat Golovin 7-5 7-5.

It would be a good match. I think Sharapova would find a win to win though.

It would depend on what type of day they played on. Nice warm day tati's toast. Cold and damp. Tati in three.

Would be very close.

I think Golovin could pull the upset.

Really, don't even look at me...

If Golovin reaches the QF of French Open I would consider that as a breakthrough. Semifinals and beyond is unlikely, unless she has a super lucky draw (i.e., not meeting Serena, Sharapova, and the Belgians until SF).

It would be a mouthwatering match, just like the Birmingham 2004 final which I attended!

Tatiana is a very impressive prospect, but there's a huge gulf between her current level and Maria's. If Maria would be playing well, she'd win in two sets without too many problems. If not, Tatiana might well win the first set, but Maria has a habit of starting slowly but bouncing back to win in three - the Birmingham final being a prime example of that (Tati played a very good first set, with Maria making lots of errors, but then Maria cut down her errors, and Tati went for too much and started making errors herself, so Maria won 4-6 6-2 6-1).

Tatiana's best chance of beating Maria would be in very windy conditions which Maria hates to play in, and after heavy rain which would make the clay slow and heavy - the conditions in which Maria lost her French Open 2004 quarter-final. And Tati would have to put her running-shoes on and be prepared to do a lot of retrieving, because Maria struggles the most when lots of balls come back.

The French spectators would be very pro-Golovin - and they have been known to behave disgracefully - but Maria gets off on playing in front of hostile crowds.

maria's too tough for tati in many ways, mostly mentally. her serve (first and second) are also far superior. you can slow down the court all you want, but i still see maria coming out on top.
