Their styles and temperaments were worlds apart, but when they came together on court they created one of the most compelling individual rivalries in all of sports. Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova met 80 times in a 16-year span with many of those matches coming in major finals.

Newsday writer Johnette Howard examines the Evert-Navratilova rivalry in her book The Rivals: Chris Evert vs. Martina Navratilova — Their Epic Duels and Extraordinary Friendship. The book will be released on June 7th and is endorsed by an Evert expert — Stavo Mustang, web master of Chris Evert.net.

Mustang, a Tennis Week.com contributor who learned to play tennis by watching Evert matches and still wields a Wilson wood racquet in her honor, has interviewed Howard about her new book. To read the interview please visit Chris Evert.net.

Wow, I look forward to buying that book. Look forward to seeing how accurate Howard's examination will be of the two legends.

These were great matches and a super rivalry.

From what I saw, they had alot of respect for each other.

Davenport, Capriati, Molik, Golovin, Seles, Clijsters, Myskina, Dementieva, Groenefeld, Frazier, Sprem, Hantuchova, Peschke, Dulko, Ivanovic, Smashnova, Likhovtseva, Vaidisova, Zvonereva, Schiavone, Pennetta
