How did your favourite player become your favourite?

My favourites:

1. Venus
2. Serena
3. Elena D./Kim
5. Lindsay

Well, the first tennis match I watched was Wimbledon 2000 QF- Martina vs. Venus and I remember how athletic Venus was. Since she won, I loved her!!!

Serena and Venus played in the SF there and that is when I first became her fan.

Elena D.- I was always a "no comment" about Elena D. until I saw her play Momo and J-Cap at the US Open! I admired her fighting spirit.

Kim- Felt soo bad for her after she lost to Justine in 2003-2004...Love her game.

Lindsay- Wanted to cry at Wimbledon 2003...Been rooting for her ever since.

Let them eat cake.

I liked Camille Pin because when I met her she was really friendly and had a good personality

I liked Vera since seeing her defeat Venus at RG 2003

Good thread!

Andre Agassi: i was watching a sampras-agassi match when i was in the 3rd grade or so and i remember cheering for agassi cuz he was cute but i thought his name was sampras.weird but i've loved him for so long!

ASV: i thought she had a cute face

Vee and Ree: two black women coming into tennis. i'm biased towards blacks.

Justine and Kim: i hadn't been watching tennis in a while after some time i decided to tune into the french open 01 and i saw two belgians in the semis i was like wow!(i was living in belgium at the time) and well, i became semi patriotic and started cheering them.

Vera Z: i liked her name and she performed well in the juniors.

now its all about the game. i love what they bring to the sport.

Martina Hingis.

She had just turned 16 and played Steffi Graf in the finals of the Year End Championships at Madison Square Garden, back when the final ran five sets.

Hingis won the fourth set to level the match, but she was cramping in the legs so badly she actually fell down once.

She had nothing left, but went out there for the fifth set anyway, even though she could barely move, unable to reach balls landing only few yards away from her.

She lost the set 0-6, but fought anyway. Asked why she didn't just retire, she said it was a final and you are not supposed to retire in a final. You owe it to the fans.

That, coming out of the mouth of a girl who had just turned 16 at the end of the September, made her my favorite.

Kim became my fave in the RG final 2001 (not very original I know ), it has always been a tradition at home to watch RG all together and we were happy that a player from a neighbour country was in the final. (after the Navratilova and Evert years, not forgetting Graf who was one of the rare european champions )...
Amélie, I'm not sure. Maybe a few years back when she started to become famous. Being slighty patriotic I always liked her but I started to really consider her as a fave a year or so ago...

Good luck to the Aussie and Balkan girls!

It may seem to be weird, but Sharapova after AO 2005

I used to follow men's tennis in 1999-2000 with Safin being my fave, but then I gave up on him and tennis because of his inconsistency. Then I hear that he is being very solid at AO2005 and began to watch tennis again. That were the first time when I saw Sharapova playing it was a QF against Kuznetsova. And although the level of play were pretty average, since it was very hot and they were almost dying on court, I was impressed by Sharapova's comeback in 2nd and 3rd sets especially when it seemed that she were more affected by heat than Kuznetsova. Then I watched how Safin beat Federer and Hewitt and won the whole damn thing, but unfortunately missed the epic battle in women's SF.

After AO Safin were taking a break, so I had nothing better to do than watch women's tennis in Tokyo and witnessed how Sharapova won the title. Now after Dubai and SuperTierI when Safin again lost in early rounds I almost don't spare any time to ATP at all. I really like Sharapova for everything that Safin lacks - consistnecy, maturity, will to victory.

It was 2002 ( i think after the Austraulian Open) and i was webmaster of a tennis site ( for 3 years long) and i had to busy to keep up the work on that site. So i asked someone else to work on the site , and that person changed the hole site in a fansite of Daniela. I never read about Daniela before that day , but she looked so cute that i started with followwing her results. When she won Indian Wells , i was obsessed by her . But only for her results, later in 2003 i started to like as a personality to ( after i talk to her in Antwerp). Since that day it's not only for her way of playing , but also for her great looks. I'm really crazy about Daniela. For me she's the most important person in the world. Can't wait to see her live again in Berlin.

elena dementieva: i saw her play one of the belgians in the year end championships in 2002, and i was watching her performance ever since her match with anna kournikova (my former #1 favorite) at the toyko pan pacific open in 2002 (which anna won 7-6, 7-6)

but i really began to love her all during amelia island 2003... especially in the final, i kept saying to myself... i dont think i have ever seen a more technically beautiful game attached to such a beautiful girl... to this day, i have never seen anyone play as well as elena did in the final against lindsay

udachi elena forever!

Iveta Benesova: became fan of Iveta @ RG 2003, but i confused Iveta with Libuse Prusova for almost a year...., I discovered the fault @ Acapulco 2004, since then i am an even bigger fan of Iveta...

Elena Dementieva: Became Lena fan when i saw a matchreport and a pic of Lena from a youth tourney back in '97, becam even bigger fan when Lena became pro..

Klara Koukalova: I remember the first match i've seen from Klara ag, Monica Seles on the AO in 2003, became her fan after that match.

Eva Birnerova: Became Eva fan after Eva won the Vittel title in 2003....

Elena Dementieva Forever!

2002 - anna smashnova

intrested in local sportswomen - and since then captivated.

if you have nothing important to say, please do so in non-tennis forum. if you have something you think is important, but is actually rubbish regarding anything other than tennis - please do so in the non-tennis forum. if you have something tennis related to say, but it's actually "OMG, X player is so h0t!1" or "who has the biggest boobs on the wtatour" please do so in menstennisforum, under "wta forum". if you have something important, tennis-related and interesting to say please do so. No one in the world can understand how much tennis means to someone, except another fan.

Lindsay.... in the 2000 Australian Open. When I saw what she did to Hingis in the final, I was just dazzled. I mean, I couldn't believe that girl. I got really interested in her, and the more I found out about her, the more I liked Lindsay
