The Wind WILL Be a Factor Today!

As of this morning in Charleston the wind was blowing...
From NNE at 29 mph
gusting to 52 mph

Which player does it hurt more? Good thing Patty plays tonight! The wind should calm down by then! Her loopy strokes would have no chance! I think Lindsay can hit through the wind. And Elena's 2nd serve toss will be just...

Schnyder should be fine, I think - she's experienced and clever enough to deal with the wind and adapt her game accordingly. Vaidisova won't be, though. As for Petrova, I sense mental implosion on the horizon

Vaidisova played through the worse conditions against Myskina a couple of days ago. It was windy. It was chilly. It was thundering. She's played in worse conditions. She should be fine physically. Mentally will be the issue.

Vaidisova is so big and strong she just hit straight through the wind against Myskina - it was very impressive. Patty is famously not a good wind player, but the night match should be the least windy of the schedule.

Nadya, another player whose game is thrown off by wind, on the other hand has to play the first match in what weather.com says are sustained winds of 30 mph

Davenport is also a good wind player, and it is going to make things more difficult for Justine today against her.

It the end of the changing of the seasons here in the South. Nothing really unusual that Winter tries to hang around weeks after it's officially over. Hello, warm weather!

Petrova's doing just fine. Golovin's tried twice to serve for the first set and Nadia's broken back (well, break point now, but...)
