Family Cirlcle Cup CURSED?

For the past two years, both the winner and the runner up in the Family Circle Cup have failed to at least reach the quarterfinals.

2003:

Winner- Justine Henin-Hardenne (2004: withdrew)
Runner Up- Serena Williams (2004: withdrew in 3rd round)

2004:
Winner- Venus Williams (2005: lost in 3rd round)
Runner Up- Conchita Martinez (2005: lost in 1st round)

I was too lazy to look up previous years, but does FCC have a history of winners and runners up not repeating their efforts?

Career Grand Slam in your 20s? Been there done that. Career golden slam your 30s?
There's only 1.
Been around the world, copped all 4 thrice.

Serena.[21]

Wow, you were on to something. What I think is funny is that Hingis never played this tournament two years in a row, thats a sham since it is a Tier I.

The FCC isn't cursed. The FCC at Charleston seems to be though. I have never seen a draw fall apart like the draws fall apart in Charleston. I don't know what it is but the finals here after the first final in Charleston have sucked. That might change this week though. The draw is still too wide open for a Teir I though.

Monica never won this tournament before

and yes it's jinxed 'cos if I'm not wrong, an injured Monica ate her only double-bagel in her career here... and was boo-ed by the ungracious crowd

You are and will always be the greatest ever!! We miss you Monica!
Ferrero get back to the top soon where you belong!!!
Grand old man of Tennis Andre Agassi - All-time most adored & well-loved & respected player ~ we'll miss you
I look at people like Andre Agassi and Monica Seles, and of course what they did. I was always amazed at how Monica came back after so long and did so well. I try to keep that as an inspiration. He who doubts loses. (Serena Williams)

It serves them right for scheduling their most popular entrant in an early match after a night match.

Correct! The good folks of South Carolina and Charleston would NEVER boo a player. They're much too kind for that.

Gorecki I think you are mistaking this tournie for the old ericsson open or was it the Evert cup once, well todays Nasdaq 100 is where Seles lost love and love to Hingis while injured or something to that nature, and she was booed because they thought she was not trying. Now we know Monica is not one for giving up, although Hingis always seemed to trouble her and an injured Seles was just prey for a healthy hungry Hingis in 2000.

I just don't like this tournament. The court is ugly to watch on t.v., there always seems to be bad weather there. It's a tier 1 event, but just doesn't feel like it. The stadium is pretty small for a tier 1.

But always remember that it was one of the first tournaments to offer substantial prize money to professional women's tennis players.
