It's not unusual for top 10 players to play in Tier 3's the week before Roland Garros. I think Lindsay will be in Strasbourg as usual for example. I am surprised Venus is playing only Fed Cup between now and Istanbul though. She should take a WC in Warsaw or Rome. She needs matches.

I think she is going to add either Berlin or Rome to her schedule.

I can't see her only playing one red clay tournament before she goes to Paris.

I'm guessing she's been asked specifically by both tournaments (& probably paid well) to play and be the 'star attraction'. Is either exclusively promoting her appearance?

Yeah, that is what I was thinking.

But, there is no lying. Venus is in a little bit of a slump in her career. After Wimbledon, Maria was in a slump. Maria won those two Tier IVs or whatever and then she went on to do some good things in China, Switzerlana, and at the YEC. Hopefully this is good for Venus. I just don't want her to get injured and not have enough time to prepare for the French.

Let them eat cake.

I think it is for her to keep her Gold exemption status. Aren't players required to play a few new events every few years. And don't they have to play a certain amount of tier one, two, and lower tier events.
