Venus isn't playing Warsaw because that
would be her playing something like six
straight weeks and that's not gonna happen.

AI will balance that out.

Isn't playing Berlin either,
Serena's got it.

Red clay hasn't been kind to her body
over the past two years and I think she
may just not want to deal with it until she has
to.

Venus is so good on clay that I only
ever really worry for her when it rains.

other players have loads of points to defend too so venus's ranking shouldnt be too badly affected if she cant defend all of her points by the end of the french open

think of what anastasia, dementieva, amelie and suarez have to defend

capriati wont get a chance to defend any of hers

Last year, Kim and Justine weren't a factor on the red clay. Adding them into the mix will be interesting.

It's been kinder to her body than most other surfaces! Clay and grass are very forgiving to the joints. I still think that part of the reason Venus is injured so often is that she overplays on hard courts and underplays everywhere else.

Even if Venus doesn't defend all her points, it's unlikely that she'll fall out of the top 10. And even if she does defend them, she's not going to move up. Her ranking is pretty safe.

Your reasoning is flawed, check again the number of clay tournaments she has played. She seem to play a reasonable amount of both hard and clay. For what ever reason she seem to suffer her worst injuries on the clay, therefore it is smart to save herself for FO as that is the title that counts on clay.
