Wink Myskina: Playing in Pain

Myskina said she's experiencing pain in her shoulder, which affects her serving. ``It's bothered me for a couple years now,'' she said. ``I don't want to have surgery on it. I've had one and that's enough for me. I'll get use to playing with the pain, I'll be fine with it.''

Must be due to all that action she puts on the ball.

Which is, of course, no match to all that action that you put on your balls.

She is going to do more harm than good, this is only going to hurt her more. I think she needs to find a really good doctor, and see what he says, because if she keeps playing with an injured shoulder, her career will be short lived.

the best thing to do is take some velocity off the serve and save the wear and tear, get surgery in the off-season.

Does she want to go into the habit of having surgery every off-season though. She had surgery done on her face in the off-season last year.

U mean her serve can get slower

Seriously tho playing in pain is not wise look at what happened to Venus when she played through pain

I think it would be wise to have surgery done again at some point in time in her career. Playing in pain forever surely cannot be healthy.

I heard somewhere......i think on this board was that it had to do with her bone construction. Im really interested to know what exactly is wrong with her shoulder. I hope she decides to do the right thing that will help the longevity of her tennis career. But on another note, what a fighter she is! a stupid one tho haha.

I heard she didn't get the jaw surgery; this was more of a dental
problem.

Anyway- Vampire's serve hasn't been good for months. I've really
noticed it at the Fed Cup finals last winter. The second serve isn't
the one that won her RG anymore- it's weak and it's pretty obvious
to her opponents.

Yeah, it´s her shoulder blade. It´s kinda like too far out. However e.g., I am in treatment for my shoulder for months now because of inflammation and wrong shoulder constellation and I am not supposed to move my arm (and it certainly hurts!)...I don´t know how she does it, there´s a too huge risk getting a complete tear of the rotator cuff, but well, it´s her decision. Actually Tommy Haas had a complete tear which was the reason he was out for nearly two years (incl. surgery). My doctor told me I was not supposed to do any sport or upper arm movement at all. I remember her saying that she had a small tear in Indian Wells 2004, so she had this condition for a long time ...it can´t be healthy.

Anastasia has talked about this before. I think it's called a rotator cuff.
She's going to play with it, unless it gets very painful, or effects her game.
