i don't get why...

people want the australian open pushed back to march! sure there are injuries etc but why dont they just finish off the year a little earlier and cut off a few of the indoor carpet tournaments.

the school/uni year in australia runs from february so if they did push it back to march, then the tournie would lose a lot of money and hence there wouldnt be this GS anymore

my opinion then: finish the previous year in october, so then they have a full 2 or 2 and a half months to recover

The length of the season isn't a problem. Nobody forces the players to play. Steffi Graf only played 11 or 12 events a year most of her career.

Not blind. Not uninformed. We are party to atrocities. But the response of the world after 9/11 is worth noting. Even our most dire enemies offered aid. We should all be so lucky.

I agree- i think the ATP/WTA/ITF are chasing the $$$ in Europe though.
Also, no noe forces the palyers to play that many tournies OR exhibitions.
I think it is incredible when you hear certain players crack it over the length of the season and you see them playing Exhibitions in late November and December

The season could be shorted easily by reducing Indian Wells by 1 week, playing fed Cup over 1 wek (in july) and at the end of the season change after the US Open have a Tier 2 Euro indorr tournie the same week as Bali.

when they spoke about doing it last year, they had a problem with the Formula 1 organisators who didn’t want it. Because 2 big great events in the same time, there will have less crowd.

It's mainly because over the years players have complained about the heat. Back in the late 80s and the first half of the 90s many players skipped this tournament because 1. it was too hot 2. the ozon layer was too thin, some places even had holes in it and during the hottest months the risks for skin cancer increases. Back then the number of people diagnosed with skin cancer was much higher. It's better now and people are more aware of the dangers of skin cancer, protecting themselves better but still players are in the risk zone.
