Kim Clijsters' determined sprints, stunning splits and shrieking sneaker squeals brought some spectators to a standstill on Saturday afternoon in Times Square. As the unseeded Clijsters conquered second-seeded Maria Sharapova, 6-3, 7-5, to capture her second consecutive tournament title and stretch her winning streak to 14 matches, New Yorkers watched the action live on the NASDAQ MarketSite screen, seven stories above the street.

Pedestrians weren't the only people drawn to the action on the Crandon Park courts. Attendance for the NASDAQ-100 Open was 263,118 for 22 sessions, the third highest total in NASDAQ-100 Open history. The total is up 4 percent (9,096) over 2004 and the second straight year the tournament has had increased attendance after a two-year decline following the September 11th terrorist attacks.

Good Friday. March 25th was a record-setting attendance day and the tournamentís best-attended session with 17,180 spectators.

The tournament featured five record-breaking sessions:

Session 2 (Wednesday night, March 23rd) 10,223
Session 3 (Thursday day, March 24th) 12,715
Session 5 (Friday day, March 25th) 17,180 (2,386 grounds passes sold on Good Friday)
Session 13 (Tuesday day, March 29th) 14,224 (Kids Day broke record from 1995)
Session 20 (Friday night, April 1st) 12,772 (Agassi vs. Federer semifinal broke record from 1995)
The Key Biscayne event has long been a favorite stop for both players and fans. The Nasdaq-100 Open was named ATP Tournament of the Year for the third consecutive year and for the sixth time in the pas seven years and and was named the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Tournament of the Year for 2004.
