Venus's forehand grip

According to Dave Rineberg, Venus used to have an extreme western grip on her forehand. This gave her problems on low forehands and she ended up switching.

I always thought she was more semi-western, but after observing her forehand finishes at Miami, I think she's eastern.

Anybody want to comment?

i always thought she was semi-western.

if anyone has seen the movie raising tennis aces a guy that helped coach serena at a younger age said he had changed her grip from eastern to semi-western i think.

Venus uses semi-western, Serena uses a western.

Neither of them use anywhere near an extreme western.

Martina Navratilova
Steffi Graf

I have always thought her forehand looked semiwestern in the beginning and it looked more western in 2002.

She used to play with a full western can see it in her matches against spirlea and later hingis at the US open '97. She changed it going into '98 as reinberg says, I have always believed this part of the problem with her forehand ...if you spent all your formative years using one particular grip and then you change, the mechanics of the new grip will just sometimes break down in pressure situations. One of the reasons for the change was she'd always wanted to win wimbledon and the western is not really good for grass and the low bounces you get on that surface.
