I don't know either, but any information would be greatly appreciated. I really liked that tournament and fondly remember Ai Sugiyama's incredible title run there, playing four three-setters in one day (2 singles and 2 doubles) and winning them all!

All I know is Wayneo won the mens title there this year

Why is it that the world never remembered the name of Johann Gambolputty de von Ausfern-

It's only an ATP tourney anymore. Yes, Wayne Arthus won his first ever tourney after dunno how many years on the tour.

Scottsdale was great despite the rain at times. I went there for 3 years, and the last time with Ai winning 4 matches was just unbelievable. Unfortunately, the tournament was sold to Qatar.

Here's the latest news I found about it. Looks like the Tennis Channel is hoping to bring the women's event back.

Tennis Channel buys tourney

The Tennis Channel is purchasing the Arizona Men's Tennis Classic from sports marketing agency IMG.

Renamed the Tennis Channel Open, the $400,000 tournament at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess will be run by IMG Monday through Feb. 27. The cable TV network will assume control in 2006.

Steve Bellamy, president and founder of The Tennis Channel, did not disclose the sale price. He said he hopes to purchase a women's tournament to be held simultaneously, perhaps next year.

Men's and women's tournaments were held separately over consecutive weeks from 2000 through 2003. IMG sold the State Farm Women's Tennis Classic for more than $5 million to the Qatar Tennis Federation in September 2003.

The men's event, which began in 1986, had been without a title sponsor since last year.

"From a television perspective, we can take every chance and try every new thing under the sun," Bellamy said. "Our canvas is the screen and our art is tennis, and we're constantly pushing the envelope."

Bellamy said he wants Scottsdale to become "like a tennis Woodstock. Scottsdale is a destination, travel-oriented place. We are a business that caters to the CEO crowd from all over the country, and it's a great place to invite them."
