ESPN's The Sports Reporters on Venus and Jenny
For anyone unfamiliar with this program, it's a half-hour sports discussion show on ESPN featuring a bunch of sports reporters (men, of course) discussing various topics. Most of the time they talk about the NFL, NBA or MLB.
They had a year-end discussion this year. One part involved what they thought was the big sports story of the year.
I thought they were going to talk about baseball (the World Series, Barry Bonds, etc.).
Instead, two of the reporters (out of three plus the host), chose women's tennis stories. One guy chose Venus Williams' "domination" of women's tennis (being black in a white-dominated sport, repeating her big titles, etc.). The other guy, who I think was Bill Conlin, chose Jennifer Capriati's comeback story.
And then came the part that made me laugh: The guy that chose Venus started to argue with Conlin over his choice of Jenny...saying that Venus didn't take drugs and stuff like that.
Then Conlin said a few things and then something like "You don't have to start an argument over it. It's just my opinion. For me, Capriati was the story that touched me."
It was just amusing seeing a bunch of male sports reporters who normally don't discuss tennis discuss women's tennis and get into the same kind of arguments that we get into at WTAWorld.
Wish I taped it.
