I don't know, but it sure as hell makes me sad. i love the german girls but they just can't seem to improve thier game.
ALG is a big promise, but i'm afraid she'll be top30 for a year or two and then fade away.
many russians, czeks, french and spaniards prove that there CAN be european dominance, but the germans somehow didn't tag along.

if you have nothing important to say, please do so in non-tennis forum. if you have something you think is important, but is actually rubbish regarding anything other than tennis - please do so in the non-tennis forum. if you have something tennis related to say, but it's actually "OMG, X player is so h0t!1" or "who has the biggest boobs on the wtatour" please do so in menstennisforum, under "wta forum". if you have something important, tennis-related and interesting to say please do so. No one in the world can understand how much tennis means to someone, except another fan.

Yeah you’d thought with someone like the supreme Steffi they’d be playing tennis in their droves. But it just simply hasn’t happened.

You'd be right - if we changed the thread title into "Why is women's tennis in an awful state presently world-wide" ....

They earned much money in the past, they had the succesful Germans playing and didn't invest in their future. Now they try more, but there are many problems which are so hard to explain (I could talk two hours about it) and believe me, they aren't minor one's!

FLAVIA PENNETTA

US OPEN CHAMPION 2015

Thank you for all these moments over the last years! Supported you until your final point!

I thinked that all developed countries need to have good investment in their sports programs in order to produce champion athletes; otherwise the only champions these countries will produce will only come from very comfortable backgrounds unless they can somehow manage to get a scholarship at a US tennis academy. People in Eastern Europe and Russia (not to mention South America, Asia...) are so poor that tennis is one of the only means by which people can make a decent life for themselves which is why the competition is so fierce. Any other country, however, has to make a significant investment in developing players, which even the US is struggling with as the USTA is one of the worst bureaucracies. Canada is the most extreme perhaps in that it invests less in its sports programs than any other developed country which is why it has no singles players in the top 100 and was beaten by Bulgaria in medals standings at last year's summer Olympics. France and Spain (and perhaps Switzerland? Australia? Belgium? Or are all of their current stars flukes that are successful only because tennis is so popular in these countries?) have great facilities for junior players whereas Germany, the UK, and many other countries have none.

Therefore, it either takes great player development or a rare exception to create a great tennis player.

With apologies to German tennis fans, that was the first time I laughed out loud all day.

Not blind. Not uninformed. We are party to atrocities. But the response of the world after 9/11 is worth noting. Even our most dire enemies offered aid. We should all be so lucky.
