How do you deal with topsin and power at the same time

I played my first "real" match in about 4 months yesterday and lost pathetically to a guy I used to beat so easily. Granted I haven't really been practicing but I could barely keep a ball in the court. I mean Spin I can handle, power I can handle. But both of them together so this guy really hit hard but he had so much spin on his shots that when I made contact with the ball it just went up like a lob and out. I did what I do when I play people who put lots of spin I started standing in about two feet inside the baseline to try to hit the ball early but that made it worse. So I started standing behind the baseline like 5 feet I mean I looked pathetic out there. I lost 6-3,6-0. I have seriously never played someone who can utilise both power and spin so well together. I did notice that when I moved him around he didn't have as much time to set up his shots but then he would do a drop shot kind of shot which would work about half of the time. Also when I got the ball on my two handed backhand I could hot a lot better but the forehand was the worst.Seriously though I got kind of depressed cos it was just pathetic and I used to beat this guy very routinely. Do any of you all have tips for dealing with powere and spin at the same time?

I would practice taking the ball early, like you said you tried. Or come to net.

Thats the way I play (when I get balls in court). When I play someone who hits with power and topspin, I usually hit moonballs deep in the court. Try and take pace off the ball and get it deep. He might make some errors off his back foot, or you can sneak in to net if he's out wide. Try to bring him to net yourself and pass/lob him, and if you can slice the ball short in the court, low balls are hard to get both topspin AND power on.

If you can, hit the ball on the rise with even more power and topspin

First thing, figure out where he's hitting the ball to get that result, and DON'T hit it there. Not just forehand or backhand, but how high? Does he handle slice well?

My brother-in-law has a nasty forehand off low shots. But if he has to take the ball at shoulder height, it makes all the difference. Also, take the initiative in the point. Don't just return the ball, return it somewhere he can't use his killshot. Think Jennifer Capriati vs Serena Williams. Toss in some short slice, then topspin over his head when he comes in.

Not blind. Not uninformed. We are party to atrocities. But the response of the world after 9/11 is worth noting. Even our most dire enemies offered aid. We should all be so lucky.
