Venus Williams REAL problem

As Ive been lamenting Venu's recent losses I think Ive finally discovered what her problem is. Yes she is technically deficit.Yes the tour isnt as afraid of her as they use to be. Yes the tour as improved over the last year.... but thats not why Venus is losing. Venus has always had these problems with her unforced errors, forhand, and second serve.... and although the tour as improved there are only two players that can blast her off the court (Serena and Maria) and they both have to be perfectly on for that to happen.... Venus problem is Shes not having fun on the court anymore..... If youve seen any of Venus's recent matches say the last year and some months she doesnt look like she wants to be out there. It looks like shes out there because its her JOB not something she really wants to do. The Venus of the past 00-01 looked like she enjoed playing those close matches and pulling things out when it got tough... and even in 02-03 when she was losing to Serena she still seemed to be enjoying herself and the game of tennis. I know shes had injury but I honestly dont think thats played as big a role in her losses as others think. If you travel back in time to the begginging of the 2000 season she was coming off a very seriuse injury btu what does she do she goes on to win 2 slams that year and 2 olympic medals and why... b/c she wanted to be out there playing and competeting yes she cared about her results but she cared more about being out there competeing. The Venus of today plays matches and before shes even hit the first ball is concerned with how this result is going to help her ranking or confidence.... Venus confidence has taken a hit and it will continue to take hits b/c she is too concerned abnout her results and not enough about her play. If she would focus greater attention to her level of play(win or lose) than she could begin to really enjoy the game and there wouldnt be as much pressure on her shoulders ultimaly allowing her to just play her game with far more ease and she would see that the results will come b/c she has decided to play b/c she loves it and not b/c she feels obligated...... and if Venus doesnt care about playing anymore than honestly I feel it may be already too late for her.

I think it's her confidence. It hasn't been this low in YEARS.

I completly agree I do think its her confidence ... but even when she won 19 matches in a row last year she played horrible at both the French and London if winning 19 matches in a row isnt a confidence booster I dont know what is.... I really just dont think she wanted to be out their last year and it showed in her resuts

I don't know. I think it's a combination of a lot of things and confidence and enjoyment are just two of them.

Do you think if she did not enjoy tennis she would be out there fighting like she did yesterday and the week before with an injury. I don't know where you people come up with this crap. If she was not enjoying this as she said before she would retire she certainly don't need the money.

venus is doing it really tough at the moment, you don't have to over analyse her game every time something goes wrong.she played antwerp like she was ready to take her place at the top again. She failed to serve for the match coz of either nerves/pressure and hadn't ben in the final of a big tourny in a while, (antwerp was huge for her coz of the diamonds) but yes confidence comes with winning and she knows she really now can compete. She has played very wll this year, so much better than last year anyway. Venus will ened this year in the top 4, mark my words!

Rena- a tennis great! 22 at striking distance.

edit: turns out Venus was genuinely injured. she aggravated the 2003 Wimby stomach injury.

Seeing as Venus is my favorite player and the reason I play/watch tennis my opionion is not from a haters point of view... anyone that plays tennis knows that if your not having fun no matter how much you believe in your ablities or how good you are its going to hurt your game which eventually hurts your confidence which WILL show up in your results

V has suffered from injuries for the past 2 years, which prevent her from practicing. She needs the heavy practice to be at the top of her game. Her "slump" has nothing to do with desire, only injuries. She will recover and reach the top 5 soon

You never know, in fact my fave Sabatini played 3 years of Tennis (last 3) without enjoying it. It could be a good explanation of her slump, im not saying it is, but its possible.

I've always said this but Venus strikes me as a good enough person. She doesn't need the rest of the world to look at her and say you're the best, because she will and has believed she's the best since day one. I think her "problem" to me is that she's accomplished so much in tennis and very few can claim to have accomplished more. When you also consider the fact that this was chosen for her and she's accomplished this much it's enough for her. And it's difficult for us as fans, cause there are few things more in life at this point I would like more than to see Venus hold up another slam title, but I realize, that it may not be what she wants, at least enough to put her other priorities to the side to concentrate more on tennis. And i can't fault her for that.

As long as people are talking about Venus I'm happy

let's count how many threads there are about Venus in the first few pages of the GM

"I love when Venus stands on the second serve there, it's intimidating to her opponent.......you're scared and mad at the same time"
