What's holding her back from turning pro? She's not able to keep any of her prize money as an amateur. How does she pay for her travel and accommodation? Is not turning pro her act of rebellion against the Chinese government? Since everything she earns goes to them anyway, is she making something of a stand? I'd still like to know how she pays for travel and accommodation if she's not earning anything through tennis. Surely, her clothing and racquet endorsements can't be what she's living off.
"There are more dogs than women in the locker rooms" - Liz Smylie "I'm really feeling my balls" - Serena Williams "She had him in her box... It made his week!" - Tracy Austin "Tell us Rafa, what else do you do with your right hand?" - Todd Woodbridge "I have a pain here, in my famous ass" - Rafael Nadal
If you're an amateur, you can't accept prize money, but you can have your expenses paid for. So basically, whatever she earns that week covers her food, practice court time, and hotel. The only thing she is having to pay for is her coaching (which the Chinese government provides for free) and her flight.
