Is anyone else sensing that Maria is..

not really liked by tennis fans.

The AO crowd barely reacted to her court interview.

Yes. That's why the crowds have been screaming "Maria, Maria" out there. Because they can't stand her.

I can assure you she definitely wasn't a fav with fans with her first few rounds

When she was playing her 3R match (I think - Friday night) someone said shutup when she was screeching. The Chair Umpire warned the crowd not to talk during points, etc and then someone else screamed out (paraphrasing here) "Does that apply to the player?"

Definitely got an amusing reaction from the crowd

In terms of popularity in the women's draw that is left it would be:

1. Molik
2. Davenport
3. S. Williams
4. Mauresmo
5. Sharapova (though she could be at no 4)
5. Schynder
6. Dechy

Nope. It's only washed-up over rated Russian tennis players and their fans who hate Maria .

That's an interesting comment, considering that Maria's image is consistently splattered all over ESPN, SI and used to promote women's tennis.

The only so-called tennis fans who do not like her are primarily the Royal Court, who hate anything not Williams. Especially when one of the sis' loses.

A lot of great players have been unpopular when young. Martina Nav, Graf, Seles, Venus and Serena

It was a classic - and surprisingly enough Maria didn't screech for the rest of the match *g*

The crowd also booed her when she got her match point in the Lindsay Lee-Waters match - because the umpire had overruled a call to bring it up - so the crowd booed it because as the replays should the ball was actually out and ended up turning the match to Maria.

ETA: She might be popular but from the first 4 rounds I saw her play in, she definitely didn't have the crowd going her way in all of them.

But that's AO guys, they are cheering for the "no-favorite" player...

I watched her matches so far except the first one, and
the crowd isn't into her. I guess because they've got Alicia
this year- she's not pulling in the FHM or MAXIM guys.

It's weird. I was shocked that someone even yelled "shut up"
to her in her match against Na Li.

True; but Maria's is the WTA sweetheart. Daniela get's alot
of support, Maria doesn't. Tati Golovin has gotten a bigger
crowd buzz than Maria this year. Weird.

I think from the applause and look of the crowd Patty would be a lot higher up that list. I don't hear any great love for Serena or Momo and they really react to anything classy Patty hits. As Eurosport keeps on saying they are a knowledgeable lot.
