the US Open was the only good slam for a few matches last eg dementieva/cap, dementieva/mauresmo, schnyder/hantuchova (bias).

wimbledon sucked - crap final, choke from lindsay in the semi, close bad quality match in the other.

roland garros really sucked - crap quarters, crap semis, crap final.

Aus Open had a decent final last year but the rest sucked.

this has been better than average i would say.

Best matches so far... Elena's matches. The Dani and Patty ones were
really high class stuff. Shame that she had to go out because her matches
had the most dynamic play and crowd tension.

I would also include Serena -vs- Petrova, the rest were pretty
average. Too many UE's no drama, and boring rallies.

Wait- one more was good. AM -vs- Dinara.

It really helps when you have players with different types
of styles up against each other, and aren't afraid to wear their
hearts on their sleeves.

Well thanks to the lovely ESPN, I got barely any coverage of Patty/Elena!

I did watch Serena and Petrova though, I thought it was pretty bad myself .

Did you watch it "live"? The match quality wasn't good; but
Nadia is entertaining- and there was tension which was lacking
in all of the others.

I think the heat has a lot to do with the quality of matches. It is incredibly difficult to play a pro tennis match in the 90 degree weather. I am surprised Ms. Myskina (not the biggest fan of the sun, as we all know ) is still alive, heh heh...
