i think we need to look at the big picture about Mary Carillo...

i as many people like Mary Carillo's commentary but however have been frustrated by her comments against the Williams Sisters. however I've realize that i shouldn't be angry at her, but agree with her. mary's comments and what-not are harsh sometimes but i think that mary just wants the williams sisters to be the best that they can be. now as some of you have pointed out that she doesn't critize sharapova, etc. well maybe she thinks that if serena or venus improved their serve or what not they'd be much better than sharapova.

i think people need to see the real picture and that mary is only doing her job and is only wanting the williams sisters - like all of us - to play to their best ability

I agree with you, but she didn't go about it the right way in Serena's first match.

I watched that match and don't remember her being too harsh; I just recall her harping on the fact that her serve is nothing like it used to be. What was she saying?

LINDSAY DAVENPORT
Mary Pierce-----Monica Seles-----Martina Hingis

I think Mary Carillo would like to see everyone play to the best of their ability. But she has not been nearly as negative when other players perform below par.

Davenport, Mauresmo, Sharapova all have dropped sets to far weaker players than they. it IS true that Venus and Serena are the two most accomplished players in this field. But Davenport is world #1, Mauresmo is world #2, and Sharapova is world #4, and the current Wimbledon champ. If they're dropping sets by the third round, are THEY playing under par.

Serena has lost fewer games than anyone in her half of the draw.

I don't see a vendetta on Carillo's part, but this is far from objectivity.

Not blind. Not uninformed. We are party to atrocities. But the response of the world after 9/11 is worth noting. Even our most dire enemies offered aid. We should all be so lucky.

She slowed her roll. I don't think she wants the fate of Chrissie Evert.

As "Wendy" noted in another thread, Mary and Pam constantly and consistantly gave clinics during broadcasts on how to beat the Williams sisters. Didn't work but damn they kept tryin'. Kinda makes you wonder don't it?

I also get the sense that Mary is critical of at least Venus because she truly believes and knows that Venus is greater player than she has showed in the past year.

But I have noticed many Venus fans seem to echo many of Mary's comments even if it seems like Carillo is harping on it too much.

Ya know! It's hard to get the big picture when you have such a small screen!!
