Could Anna Smashnova beat Venus tomorrow?

The way she's been playing in her last two rounds, I think she's actually got an outside shot.

The last four sets she's played, she's made a grand total of 14 ERRORS. In 28 games. So every two games she's hitting one unforced error. If she's playing like that, the only way Venus will win is by hitting more winners than errors. Venus has played well, particularly in her last match, but you never really know how that forehand is going to hold up.

What do you guys think? I'm thinking Venus if she's playing well, but if she's not it will go three sets, and then maybe Anna has a chance.

Not much of a chance - she is going to have to be a lot more agressive!
I remember when she played Serena in YEC - I don't think she even hit one winner - she will have to do much better against Venus today.

JELENA JANKOVIC

Martina Hingis - Anastasia Myskina - Ana Ivanovic - Marina Erakovic - Serena Williams

Venus's forehand tends to hold up unless it's put under severe pressure, i.e. from relentless hard hitting directed at it, or when the scoreline's tight. Smashnova can't put pressure on it. If it breaks down vs Smashnova...

Ana has chance, but not likely. Unless ana totally believes in it.

to me Anna is the favourite in this match, Venus was a great player but she is in decline. Venus will never win another slam.

Anna stands no chance; Venus was playing the way she is now this summer at Stanford, and she embarrassed Anna love and 3 or something like that...Smashnova barely won points in the first set...

I don't think she has a chance. Only if she comes more to the net even more than her two previous matches and have the same great success. Then she can rush Venus like Suzuki did to Federer and maybe suprise. Venus passing shots maybe are better than Tanasugarn but Anna can catch her off guard.

But i doubt she will do that anyway Good luck tomorrow

P.S Unfortunately I think your teory is false because Venus will need more winners, forced errors and unreturned serves (same as forced errors?) than UE and I think she will get that.

Queen of Asia.

Anna played like crap for most of last year. The way she is playing this tournament seems to be like her old '02 form, when she reached #15 in the rankings. If Anna plays the way she did last year, then yes, Venus will bitch smack her silly. But if Anna continues her top form in this match against Venus and can get Venus flustered, that forehand is going to start breaking down and Anna will have a real chance at this match.

Anna at her best was a pretty big force on hardcourts. She took out a top 15 Shaughnessy, a top 15 Dementieva, a top 10 Henin-Hardenne, and a top 10 Dokic that year. She's also scored hardcourt wins over a top 10 Myskina, top 15 Zvonereva, top 15 Petrova, top 15 Farina-Elia, and top 15 Sugiyama.

I'm not saying she's the favorite, folks, but beating Venus can definitely be done by her.
