This story was good for Kuznetsova

Yes, I know that it was a "negative" story. However everyone now knows that it was false and that she's innocent. So what good came out of it? Let's see. She was seen as one of the most boring top players (perhaps in the history of the game). Fans didn't care about her, in fact she even complained about how she gets no attention, she basically was seen as this boring player that nobody even cares that much to see. Even the US OPen win didn't help.

But now, because of this story, everyone knows her a lot more, photographers are there on her matches, fans are there, everyone is talking about her, she's actually now seen as a "personality" like the other top players. And all those people know that it was a false rumor, so they will become supporters or at least follow her career and know about her a little more. This was a blessing in disguize in my opinion. There were a couple of days of suffering, but on the long run, she will gain from this because everyone knows she's innocent and she's now seen as a STAR.

Before, the average fan would have said "Kuznestova vs Serena? bah, who cares about Kuznetsova she's so boring, this is not interesting". Now they will say "Oh it's Kuznetsova vs Serena, interesting match". Let's face it, before this incident 99% of people didn't give a damn about Kuznetsova. But now she's become popular. Her wish has come true.

Sveta isn't looking for "celebrity".
She wants to be known as a great champion.
That's what she's working towards.
All this media nonsense doesn't bother her.
She knows she did nothing wrong.
She's won 9 straight matches at the majors.
Her goal is to keep that streak going.

I agree with goldenlox, Sveta is the type of player that likes flying under the radar.

Then she shouldn't be jealous and bitch about why Sharapova, Dementieva and Myskina get more attention than her, like she did a few days ago in an interview.

I think she's more upset about the lack of praise from Russia compared to what the other three get. I think it really bothered her she didn't get a call from the president and sharapova and myskina both heard from him after their wins.

I disagree, casino. Mud sticks, and unfortunately all sponsors care about is that she was involved in a drug scandal (even a ridiculous one) and her name is associated with such things, and they are unlikely to invest in her.

She never said anything like that. Sveta doesn't care at all about that.
She was just on the December cover of Ace magazine.
Sveta has lost 4 games in 2 matches.
Anything she wants to say, she does it with her racket.

In the U.S., this is not even news.
Sveta is the US Open champion. And she's going to be fine with Madison Avenue.
This is only a story in Australia and Belgium.

And by history of the game, the history that you know ... say, since Jan 2005

GL, the story has made women's tennis actually be in UK newspapers outside of Wimbledon and Sharapova, which is quite impressive.

and where they produce desolation, they call it peace

In the U.S., it's not a story at all.
What's important is that Sveta is playing well, and her draw is very friendly until the QF, where Sharapova is struggling.
So we could see Sveta vs. the Amelie/Serena winner.

It was certainly good for Alicia Molik who gained a lot of respect from fans for standing up for Svetlana. Just how cool was buying up all the newspapers in the store and throwing them in the garbage?

That's so true. Just look how they treated the West German Women's Swim Team after their fiasco at the olympics back in the 70s. Maybelline and Max Factor immediately dropped all their contracts...

There is nothing more beautiful than Evonne Goolagong in full flight moving across a tennis court.

Svetlana will not be hurting financially.
She won $1 million dollars in NYC, and gave the check to her parents.
She got another check for $100,000 the next day. For her doubles.

Don't know where you are or what papers you read, but this had been in the Boston Globe twice - the Globe usually ignores tennis - and neither story/blurb mentioned that what she tested positive for is perfectly legal out of competition. It's news.

Fact is, a good chunk of the people who do know about this scandal either a) don't know she's been cleared or b) know she was cleared technically but still think something's fishy and suspect she really isn't totally clean. (don't take my word for it, read the threads).

And now a good chunk of people who really knew nothing about Sveta now only know her as the "girl who tested positive" - a designation that will not die with the larger story (commentators still bring up the Hingis/Mauresmo dust up for Oz '99).

I hope for her sake, that this does not affect her tennis. But this is not "good" for her. Granted, "Madison Avenue" wasn't interested in her at all in the first place, so you could argue it can't make the situation any worse, but you certainly can't argue that it helps.

Reason is poor propaganda when opposed by the yammering, unceasing lies of shrewd and evil and self-serving men.
