Double Standard is Disgusting

I know this has been said alot but the double standard that commentators have when dealing with the sisters is really sad.

Where was Mary dissing and carrying on about Hyperova's terrible stats tonight..the other day she was going on and on about Serena like her mouth had diarrhea

Also if I have to hear Hyperova's story one more $%^&#*% time, I will scream...we get it...gosh I'm sure the average tennis fan could recite the story verbatim

P.S. I'm no fan of Hyperova but she sure does have alot of heart.

VENUS. ANA, TAY TAY. NICOLE. LAURA. KONJUH. MADISON

SERENA. MUGU. VIKA. PETKO. CARO. TIMEA. SVETA. HEATHER. KAIA. TAMIRA. FLAVIA. GEORGI. COCO. LUCIE, SLOANE. PENG. SORANA. ALICIA. JAEDA. CICI. ANETT. DANKA. DONNA. FRANCOISE.

GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN. SHENAY. DINARA. GISELA. SPREM.

You forgot to mention crazy Yuri in the stands jumping up and down taunting Maria's opponents. Another double standard!! Disgusting.

Actually, no. When you're undertake anything as an outsider, you get critics. Succeeding at it makes some of them MORE critical. That's just how life is. Have youever stopped to think how the people who were the most vocal criticizing Richard Williams feel? After ten GS singles titles, six GS doubles titles, and four GS mixed doubles titles, plus Olympic Gold in singles and doubles, AND a Fed Cup title?

It's one thing to be wrong. It's another thing to be THAT wrong. There are probably still people on this board who wrote that neither of the Williams sister would ever win anything!

It's not sad. It's typical. There's no point feeling down about it. At this point, we'd nail people for hypocracy if they praised Venus or Serena.

And, for better or for worse 'Hyperova' is the defending Wimbledon champion. And she's hardly all over the airwaves a la Kournikova. Maybe it ain't all hype.

Just let it go.

Not blind. Not uninformed. We are party to atrocities. But the response of the world after 9/11 is worth noting. Even our most dire enemies offered aid. We should all be so lucky.

I don't disagree with you here, but what would criticism towards Maria accomplish other than criticism being directed at another player? Would it just be about the fairness of the criticism? Because if both are taken to task, then would the negative talk geared towards Serena be okay and then true? Wouldn't that then be a situation where Carillo couldn't be called unbiased, but she'd still have something to say about an area in Serena or Venus' game that would bother some. She's doing part of her job, we don't always like it, but at the end of the day what weight does her word actually have on Serena or Venus?

your're right. she was nowhere near as critical. the matches were completely different though... lindsay is probably the best player who has been eliminated from the tournament, and camille was the worst player i have even seen on television (except elton john )
i have a feeling mary is saying what people want to hear. serena hasn't won big in a long time, and she's really letting her have it-- to the point where she sounds ridiculous.
and sharapova isn't playing clean tennis by any means, and they just say "yea, once again, too many errors from sharapova. she'd like to clean that up." i don't want this to turn into an anti-sharapova thread. it seems obvious that sesil and lindsay were far better opponents than either camille or dally.
it's also ironic that you are sick and tired o hearing about her story... think it's possible other fans got sick of hearing the williams sisters compton story? it's possible.
also, since yuri has been brought up... richard williams is lucky his daughters have come through for him and have had amazing careers-- because he's truly an idiot. i'm glad he has stayed away. he was insane, then really entertaining, then highly inappropriate. he has been all things. i haven't listened to him since he completely wrote off venus which she had her wrist injuries.
ppl say "look how much he's been right!" i say "and then look how much he's been wrong..." every idiot has his day.

Ok do we really need another one? Come on lets be honest, those of us who see it, see it. You're never going to get people on this board to agree with you. You know it's there, and you acknowledge it. All you're asking for is a list of lame excuses and arguments about how "different" this situation is.

LOL@ your nickname for Sasha BK4ever-

Didn't see the match so I can't comment, though Mary was big on Venus last night.

I too am outraged! Where is the talk of K-Lina? She hasn't been mentioned once. This double standard must end.

Anger.
Betrayal.

Oh, that's not entirely true. I never used to really see "it" myself, but it's more obvious to me these days. Maybe if people hadn't pointed "it" out over and over again (sometimes where it really probably didn't actually make sense), I would have never have come to acknowledge "it" on occasion.

But maybe it's just me
