Smile Who Was/is the Queen Of Cleaning Clocks @ 6-0/6-0 or 6-0/6-1?

Happy New Tennis Year All,

What’s shakin’ loose? I too wish all the players will soon come back healthy and stay that a way. There are many good and great players out there in 2005 - and for the most part. It is almost virtually impossible to bet on and predict who’ll win any given tourney these days - indeed.

I also understand that Martina H. is returning to test the waters. Good for her. Have I or have I not (and along w/many others - LOL) stated that she could still hang in many matches against many opponents as long as she improved her serve? We shall see how she is serving next month. Different factors sure do have to do w/who wins a match and on any given day. Martina could still clean some of these players clocks - IMO. She was the greatest at changing the direction of the ball. And at times - she could pinpoint a new angle also that would frustrate many of players. How about the way she used to do her"Dink" shots. LOL!

IMO - and other than when Steffi, Monica and Martina N. were dominating - there was no other child like Martina Hingis. I mean - in the grand slams - she would - for the most part - cruise thru the first four rounds w/her winning - 6-0/6-0 - or 6-1/6-0 - or - well you know what I mean.

Is Martina Hingis’s record still the best as it pertains to her scores in the first four rounds or so in the slams, and in other tourneys - for that matter - where she would routinely clean other player’s clocks w/the above scores? LOL!

Anyway - it is about blankety-blank time that tennis appeared again on the TV screen. What is wrong w/some folks - to where they don’t see that many, many folks will turn in to watch tennis iffin’ it is on?
Duh! Some of you have convinced me that I'm not missing much by not having the TC.

I hope you all have a great new year - and a fulfilling and exciting one as you keep up w/our fave sport.

I'd have to say that Hingis was the best @ this when she was dominating. Her scores up until the SF of every major were always so one-sided.

Kim usually has 2 or 3 rounds like that at every slam too.

Actually there was just another post like this sometime last year and I remember Chris Evert was the queen of beating playes by those scores.

to Jakeev-for mentioning the Queen of the double B's.

Being able to win love and love doesn't make Hingis (or Evert) better able to win a whole slam though. I'd wager for example that in in form Hingis would have double bagelled Camille Pin the other night. It won't help against a superior player in say, the semis.

The double bagels indicate two things:

1. How little depth (relatively speaking) women's tennis has to the men.
2. How darn consistent a Hingis or Evert is.

Anyhow-I sure hope Hingis makes a full comeback!

Martina Navratilova was quite good at lopsided results in Grand Slams.

Look at 1983 US Open for example

1st round (6-1 6-0)
2nd round (6-2 6-1)
3rd round (6-2 6-2)
4th round (6-0 6-1)
QuarterFinal (6-0 6-3)
SemiFinal (6-2 6-1)
Final (6-1 6-3)

in taking the Title that year she conceded just 19 games.

thats an average of 2.7 games per match.

Queen Vee, Super Rena, Krazy Kuzzie

Pierce in FO94 was not bad too...
I think she won two matches 60 60 this year (including Mc Neil) to reach the final , and Graf 62 62...

Conchita MARTINEZ-Mary PIERCE-Lindsay DAVENPORT-Martina HINGIS-Serena WILLIAMS- and new legend Monica PUIG
Kata Srebotnik - Anabel Medina-Garrigues - Arantxa Parra-Santonja
Garbiñe Muguruza- Caroline Garcia- Polona Hercog- Kimiko DK - Eleni Daniilidou ...

Although Seles has been double baggled by Hingis (when she was injured) - she also has double baggled quite a few opponents herself - And if we are counting just 1 game given, then she would definitely rank pretty high I bet. She has won a ton of matches where she has just given 1 game up.

Hingis was awesome at it. Just watching her make her opponents hit their heads with this "How is this happening" look on their face is enough to make anyone become a fan of her.

Smile Martina Helped Teach Federer

Hey All,

thelittleself - there you go. I suppose by starting this thread - I wanted to give credit to how Martina used to play - and mention that I'd heard that she would be back. I didn't mean to start another 6-0/6-0 type thread - I just brought up that factor as it pertains to how well Martina did have it going on back in the day. LOL!

What really was going on then? Someone mentioned that there was limited depth back then. Perhaps - but was that it really, or was martina really the magician some proclaim she was - and especially in the early rounds.

The players she played knew how to play tennis. Ultimately - what it boiled down to was that - Martina just had her own special brand of tennis. During those first few wins at many tourneys, Martina was hitting winners all over the place. It was not that her opponents were playing an error-filled match. If I remember correctly. LOL!

Anyway - she was the modern day clockcleaner and Martina-come-lately - as it pertained to taking her opponents to the cleaners. Later - the big babes showed up and learned how to play her. If she could get the first strike or two in - in most points - she still has some tools to win them. And that is even against the big power babes - IMO.

I know! Martina was just the most entertaining player I have ever watched. Almost every winner was carefully thought out and I'd just sit at my TV going "wow".

I hope she comes back for good too! GO MARTINA!
