I love Momo but I wonder how they justify putting her ahead of Lindsay.

Their argument for the decision was that each of the three won one major and another significant even - the Olympics, the YEC or the Fed Cup - and that Justine's win at Indian Wells meant she couldn't be ranked below Sharapova, who won no other big title.

I don't get why Sveta is ranked so low. Or why Andre is so highly ranked.

A single flow'r he sent me, since we met./All tenderly his messenger he chose;
Deep-hearted, pure, with scented dew still wet - One perfect rose.
I knew the language of the floweret;/'My fragile leaves,' it said, 'his heart enclose.'
Love long has taken for his amulet/One perfect rose.
Why is it no one ever sent me yet/One perfect limousine, do you suppose?
Ah no, it's always just my luck to get/One perfect rose.

Look carefully...Gaudio isn't in there and he won RG.

It's obviously more of popularity vote than anything else.
All the players named in the two ranking lists get alot media
coverage in France.

Kinda weird, but whatever...I like their choices (what a surprise).

Here´s how the american Tennis Magazine ranked the players (school grades):

Men:

A+: Roger Federer
A-: Lleyton Hewitt, Andy Roddick
B+: Tim Henman
B: Andre Agassi
B-: Nicolas Kiefer and Tommy Haas
B-: Marat "I suck at Perth" Safin
D: The bunch of americans like Fish, Dent

Women:

A: Maria Sharapova
("Her Wimbledon victory was stunning, and even though her consistency subsequently declined, she won the WTA´s season-ending championship for extra credit."

A-: Svetlana Kuznetsova
("It isn´t just that this gifted gym-class standout vaulted from nowhere to superstardom by winning the US Open; is that many observers think she may be the best among the russians."

A-: Anastasia Myskina
("She earns her high marks the old-fashioned way: hard work and discipline. It was rewarded this year with a surprise title at Roland Garros."
...see, you don´t need any talent to be a good player! LOL

A-: Lindsay Davenport
(for dominating all summer and being number one, but "faltering in the big ones")

B+: Elena Dementieva
(for runner up)

B: Amelie Mauresmo
(for shortly being number one, for a consistent year, but "the statistics onl underscore her failure to excel at the slams".)

C: Serena Williams
("underperformer who spends too much time on extracurricular activities")

I: Justine Henin-Hardenne
("left her year incomplete")...what´s an I?

So...I guess every country has its very own ranking system

They justified it by Amélie's silver medal at the Olympics. They didn't mention in the write-up that Lindsay led their h2h 2-0, won two more tournaments, lost two fewer matches total (same number of wins) and beat top tenners three more times though.... The real reason is, of course, George Bush!!

well; whe's French, don't you understand ?? it's a sufficient reason.
mauresmo has been on the cover almost 1 month on 2 in 2004.
they only talk abt her , which is boring.

Conchita MARTINEZ-Mary PIERCE-Lindsay DAVENPORT-Martina HINGIS-Serena WILLIAMS- and new legend Monica PUIG
Kata Srebotnik - Anabel Medina-Garrigues - Arantxa Parra-Santonja
Garbiñe Muguruza- Caroline Garcia- Polona Hercog- Kimiko DK - Eleni Daniilidou ...
