Cool Top Tennis Nations - Doubles

This is to go along with Top Tennis Nations where the singles rankings of the highest male and female players were added together to determine the overall top tennis nations. Because I've only taken the top ranked players from each country, these may not be exactly accurate, but it's something.

But first, to recap the Top 20 nations in singles:

01 UNITED STATES
02 FRANCE
03 SWITZERLAND
04 RUSSIA
05 SPAIN
06 BELGIUM
07 ARGENTINA
08 AUSTRALIA
09 GERMANY
10 CROATIA
11 CZECH REPUBLIC
12 SLOVAK REPUBLIC
13 ITALY
14 AUSTRIA
15 NETHERLANDS
16 BELARUS
17 SWEDEN
18 PARAGUAY
19 SOUTH AFRICA
20 THAILAND

The following are the Top Tennis Nations in Doubles. Amazingly, there were only 63 nations who could field both a male and female representative:

01 UNITED STATES Donald Johnson (3) + Lisa Raymond (1) = 4 (By virtue of Raymond's #1 rank, I've given the US top spot.)
02 AUSTRALIA Todd Woodbridge (2) + Rennae Stubbs (2) = 4
03 ZIMBABWE Wayne Black (12) + Cara Black (3) = 15
04 RUSSIA Yevgeny Kafelnikov (28) + Elena Likhovtseva (4) = 32 (By virtue of Likhovtseva's #4 rank, I've given Russia fourth place)
05 SOUTH AFRICA Ellis Ferreira (15) + Amanda Coetzer (17) = 32
06 YUGOSLAVIA Nenad Zimonjic (21) + Jelena Dokic (12) = 33
07 ARGENTINA Lucas Arnold (30) + Paola Suarez (6) = 36
08 SWEDEN Jonas Bjorkman (1) + Asa Carlsson (36) = 37
09 GERMANY David Prinosil (18) + Barbara Rittner (24) = 42
10 JAPAN Thomas Shimada (43) + Ai Sugiyama (9) = 52
11 FRANCE Arnaud Clement (40) + Sandrine Testud (13) = 53
12 CZECH REPUBLIC David Rikl (7) + Kveta Hrdlickova (47) = 54
13 BELGIUM Tom Vanhoudt (42) + Kim Clijsters (15) = 57
14 NETHERLANDS Sjeng Schalken (27) + Caroline Vis (37) = 64
15 SPAIN Tomas Carbonell (64) + Virginia Ruano Pascual (8) = 72
16 SLOVAK REPUBLIC Dominik Hrbaty (58) + Janette Husarova (28) = 86
17 BELARUS Max Mirnyi (11) + Tatiana Poutchek (80) = 91
18 SWITZERLAND Roger Federer (66) + Martina Hingis (30) = 96
19 CANADA Daniel Nestor (10) + Sonya Jeyaseelan (88) = 98
20 AUSTRIA Julian Knowle (84) + Barbara Schett (18) = 102

The rest of the nations are ranked as:

21 ITALY
22 INDIA
23 UZBEKISTAN
24 BRAZIL
25 CROATIA
26 HUNGARY
27 GREAT BRITAIN
28 UKRAINE
29 BULGARIA
30 ROMANIA

31 KAZHAKSTAN
32 VENEZUELA
33 NEW ZEALAND
34 ISRAEL
35 IRELAND
36 POLAND
37 SLOVENIA
38 INDONESIA
39 HONG KONG
40 ECUADOR

41 MACEDONIA
42 LUXEMBOURG
43 PARAGUAY
44 CHINESE TAIPEI
45 THAILAND
46 MEXICO
47 GEORGIA
48 GREECE
49 KOREA
50 MOROCCO

51 PORTUGAL
52 DENMARK
53 URUGUAY
54 ESTONIA
55 ARMENIA
56 COLOMBIA
57 TURKEY
58 LATVIA
59 CUBA
60 LITHUANIA

61 TUNISIA
62 BOSNIA-HERZEGOVINA
63 BOLIVIA

Interesting.

Oh yeah, and once again, retired players have been ommitted. For example, France had #5 Nathalie Tauziat, but because she retired, I used the ranking of the next best player, which was #13 Sandrine Testud. It didn't make much difference in the end though. With Tauziat, France were 10th. With Testud, France were 11th.

germany twice on #9!

Something was bound to go right sometime today, All these broken pieces fit together to make a perfect picture of us
It got cold and then dark so suddenly and rained, It rained so hard the two of us were the only thing
That we could see for miles and miles
And in the middle of the flood I felt my worth, When you held onto me like I was your little life raft
Please know that you were mine as well
Drops of water hit the ground like God's own tears
And spread out into shapes like Salad bowls and basins and buckets for bailing out the flood

well done Canada! glad Daniel helped us out in doubles Sonya thankfully had a pretty good doubles season overall as the only Canadian female in the top 100 in doubles.

And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do. Any if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time!

But he loves you."

surprised uk isnt higher actually. Pullin is ranked about 115 so a half-decent male would get us a bit higher.

Amazing feat for Zimbabwe. One family single-handedly lifted a nation to #3 in doubles!

Yugoslavia, Japan and Canada took to the Top 20 by storm.

Switzerland went from #3 in singles to #18 in doubles. A severe drop for two top singles players who also happen to excel in doubles.

United States, Russia, Argentina, Germany, Czech Republic, Netherlands and Belarus remained consistent across the board.

Australia hoisted to #2 in doubs by a couple of Grand Slam champs.

Amazingly, there are only two African nations represented and both are in the Top 5!

The Top 4 female doubles players (Raymond, Stubbs, Black and Likhovtseva) are ranked in the exact order as they would appear on the women's doubles rankings.

The Asian rankings:

01 JAPAN (10th)
02 INDIA (22nd)
03 INDONESIA (38th)
04 HONG KONG (39th)
05 CHINESE TAIPEI (44th)
06 THAILAND (45th)
07 KOREA (49th)

The South American rankings:

01 ARGENTINA (7th)
02 BRAZIL (24th)
03 VENEZUELA (32nd)
04 ECUADOR (40th)
05 PARAGUAY (43rd)
06 URUGUAY (53rd)
07 COLOMBIA (56th)
08 BOLIVIA (63rd)
