Why would shoulder soreness keep Jen out so long?

I'm not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV, but I wonder if it's unusual for soreness to keep a player out so long. Jen's shoulder injury has not been reported as a serious injury like a torn rotator cuff or a strain. I just find it a little unusual that soreness could keep someone out so long.

I also find it a bit odd that Jen's waiting until after the draw to make a decision. She rarely pulls out of a tournament before the draw is made, so it's kind of weird. Also, wouldn't Saturday be a little late to leave for her, since she would likely play on Monday?

If it's something like shoulder tendonitis, then it can take months to get better.

Jen won't get a first round bye unless one of the top four seeds withdraws and the final's on Saturday so the latest she can start is Tuesday.

When did this happen? She didn't play that much at all of the US Open. Did she do it training, because this would be horrible for Jen to have basically missed 3 striaght Oz Opens. I know she lost in the 1st round in 2003, but she basically missed the entire tournament, and very well should've not played. It's so strange that Jen can't return to the place that re-started her career in 2001, and then continued her comback in 2002. Let's pray for Jennifer.

I agree with everything you said. It's very sad that Jen has not really been apart of the Aussie Open in three years. It would be so weird if the last match she wins there is the 2002 final. It just won't be right if she can't play there again.

It's really been a bad case of deja vu all over again. Jen loses in another 3rd set tiebreak in a US Open semi, withdraws from a fall tourney, plays really crappy, gets injured and can't play in a December exo, in danger of missing the AO. It's like being in the twilight zone!

A wildcard has been extended to Kuznetsova, making it even more unlikely that Jennifer will have a 1r bye.

Dang I didn't know she wasn't leaving until Saturday what the heck!!! I really don't think she will be playing this tournament and as of right now the AO looks doubtful which really sucks. I hope that her shoulder gets better really quickly!!

I've had a messed up shoulder for over a year. Shoulder injuries are very slow to heal. Hopefully Jen will recover soon.

Shoulder injuries are hard to heal. That constant motion of serving over and over again certainly isn't going to help her get better either. If she practices everyday (doing serves) that constant strain and soreness is going to linger. Or maybe there is more to this shoulder injury than we know ( I pray and hope is not the case)? Whatever the case is....just rest and get healthy Jen!!!
