Post How I'd feel if I were Jennifer Capriati

This point of view is only "tennistic" since I'm a boy

Jennifer has had a fantastic year. She must be SO happy for everything that she's achieved. But she must feel a little dissapointed about the Nº1 postion. I mean, it was great, she got there, but only stayed for three weeks. And now Lindsay is Nº1 with a difference only of 10 points.
If she would have reached only one later round in a tournament, or converted one of the 8 match points she had in the Ericson Open against V. Williams, she'd be Nº1.

This is not an optimistic view, I know, but I'd feel a little dissapointed if I were her; wouldn't you?

Well I guess it is a pity, being number 1 at the year-end would have been the perfect ending... but maybe it is just retribution for being mean to Monica.

I'm sure she is extremely proud that she came out of NO WHERE to win the first slams of the year, and claim the number one ranking, for a brief period.

I hope that Jenn is able to look back on wht she has done, and not regret anything that she did in her great year.

Yes, she had her chances to finish number one.

But heck...who'd have thought she'd get this far, after all the happened?

I think she would be suicidal if she ever read this board - you people are such bastards to her.

She has had a fantastic year, and being #2 means she is under less pressure at the start of 2002, which is a pretty good thing.

Mirjana Lucic : Australian Open doubles champ and back in Top 100

Jelena Jankovic : US Open finalist 2008 and World No. 1

Jennifer Capriati : 3 Grand Slams, Olympic Gold and World No.1

Mark, don't get annoyed. A lot of the people criticizing Jen are silly teenagers ( not that I think all the teenagers on the board are silly ) who really have only been following tennis for a very short time so don't really understand the history of the game or the stories behind many of the players.

Jen had a great year something she'll be proud of not matter how many people bitch about her.

And all this crap about her not reaching no. 1 has at least brought about a few changes in the ranking system And that'll at least potray a more realistic view of which players are the best.

and where they produce desolation, they call it peace

Yes I do wish Jennifer had ended the year #1. Not only would it have capped off a fantastic year for her (which she deserves), it also would've prevented these silly changes to ranking points

Jen might be a little disappointed, but then she might also not even care about the rankings. We'll never really know. I think the latter is possible because at Wimbledon, she felt that the media made more out of her doing the Grand Slam than she ever did. She was a little non-plussed by all the attention around it, or she may have put up a wall as a result of losing to Justine. We'll never really know. But she's got a couple of Slams under her belt, so she shouldn't really be too disappointed about anything. Thank her lucky stars that she's still playing.

I think she can be very proud of herself, a year back her highest ranking ever was number 6 and that was in 93 also 8 years ago and now she ends as number 2 with even being number 1 for a weeks and with 2 grand slams under her belt.

We're all carried along
By the river of dreams

God help her if she ever read this board!!! Sometimes I wonder why I read this board!! LOL, it doesn't matter. She has 2 Slams and has been Number One. The wonderful thing is that no one can take that away from her.

I don't think she's too disappointed. The pressure is not on her so much now...I think it's more on Lindsay and Martina to win a Grand Slam title again.

Since Jen didn't end as #1, and didn't get those other 2 Slams, she has plenty of goals to achieve in 2002, and I think she will!!

If I were Jen I wouln't care about not finishing the year ranked no.1. After all she did get to no.1 during this year and she didn't miss out on it by much at the end.

Plus she won two grand slams - including the French open which is the slam that so far has eluded all the rest of the top ten apart from Monica.

Anyway, she'll almost certainly be no.1 after Sydney again anyway.

I think I would very happy and contented if I'm Jennifer Capriati.

At least I've got the taste of being number ONE even for a short period, unlike others who are trying really hard just to make it there even winning slams. Besides the one who grabs it from her is a certified number ONE being there a lot of times.

Another thing is that Jennifer is receiving a lot of awards this year as it ends.
