Post The problem with the Russian tennisplayers.........it's not that they're not trying..

it's the fact that they try too hard.

Research conducted in the US proved that sportspeople would "choke" due to trying "too" hard.

Could this be the problem? Should they be lightening up?

Yes? (No, I'm not labelling them as chokers.)

Aren't there two different kinds of "choking" though? I remember reading an article in The New Yorker about choking/panic. I think it was written by the same guy who wrote The Tipping Point (Malcolm Gladwell or something like that).

Most of the article was about Jana Novotna and JFK Jr (his plane crash).

I wish I had it on me.

I browse once in a while.

I think it's nerves, and a lack of real confidence. But it's not right to label all of them the same.

P.S. - ILUVJELNA, Jelena had her way with the Russians in 2001. But next year could be a different story! And in 2003 Maria Sharapova and Dinara Safina will hit the scene! By then, Jelena might feel like "why are all these Russian girls ganging up on me"?

Happiness is like a cat. If you try to coax it or call it, it will avoid you. It will never come. But if you pay no attention to it and go about your business, you'll find it rubbing up against your legs and jumping into your lap. - William Bennett

the cat in the heat, i didn't mention jelena at all in my post.

i was just trying to give another alternative to what may be wrong with the russian's. a lot of people say thay don't try hard enough, aren't focused enough but maybe ann and the others are TOO focused.

only certain players are able to handle playing at such a high intensity (dokic, seles, clijsters). i was thinking maybe the russians should be learning how to have a little more fun as sometimes they are very negative on court.
