Case Won't Be Dismissed In Yetunde's Murder Trial

"COMPTON, Calif. A judge refused Wednesday to dismiss the case against a man charged with murdering the half-sister of tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams.

Superior Court Judge Jack W. Morgan rejected the defense motion and ordered Robert Edward Maxfield back to court on Nov. 29 to determine whether his current attorney will continue with the case.

Yetunde Price, 31, of Corona, was shot while riding through Compton in September 2003. A mother of three and a beauty shop owner, she was also a personal assistant to her sisters, who began their tennis careers in Compton.

Prosecutors said Maxfield, a member of the Southside Crips, seized an assault weapon and fired 11 shots at the car driven by Price's boyfriend.

Authorities say Aaron Michael Hammer, 25, has acknowledged firing about six shots.

State law allows a murder charge for taking part in a crime in which a person is killed by someone else.

A separate jury deadlocked 9-3 earlier this month in favor of acquitting Hammer of murder. He was ordered to return to court to determine if he will face trial again.

Maxfield's first trial ended with a mistrial last week after jurors said they were deadlocked, with five voting to convict, six believing Maxfield was not guilty and one juror unable to decide.

Both face 25 years to life in prison if convicted. "

A very interesting case - The jurors are apparently confused.

Bizarre if they admit firing shots and the juries want to acquit both of them? If the law sees you as guilty if you participate in a crime which produces a murder what on earth was the defence - you are fuilty if you fired the fatal shot or not. Either we are not being told lots or the juries are pretty dumb.

It's obvious to me that the L.A. County District Attorney's Office has re-hired Marcia Clark and Chris Darden. That's the only logical explanation for these two mistrials.
