Nagyova won 96 Warsaw with her only straight set victory coming in the 1r over Kandarr.

Probably many times in the ancient days, when the defending champion only played in the final.
Where are you?

Off the top of my head I remember this happening twice in 1997.

Amanda Coetzer won in Luxembourg, playing 3 setters every round :
She beat :

R2 - Farina Elia 6-2 3-6 6-3
QF - Oremans 7-5 6-7 6-4
SF - Studenikova 6-1 3-6 6-0
F - Paulus 6-4 3-6 7-5

Hingis won Philadelphia the same way in '97 :
She beat :

R2 - Appelmans 6-2 4-6 6-2
QF - Huber 7-6 5-7 6-4
SF - Sanchez Vicario 1-6 7-6 6-3
F - Davenport 7-5 6-7 7-6

Thanks.

Although it would be nice to find one where the winner played 5 or even more matches.

Isn't Basuki Asian? There are plenty of them.
