Arrow How much further can Shenay Perry go?

Yes, some of you may call me obsesive but I call myself dedicated . Anyway I was wondering how far you guys think Shenay Perry can go in the next couple of years. She seems unstoppable on the challenger tour winning 3 titles in the last two months (out of 4 ITF tournaments played this year, her only loss on the ITF Circuit was to Angela Haynes - a respectable loss), however she seems to be losing quite handily to some of the top 50 players. Is it experience she needs, or does she not have the talent?

Here are some interesting facts about Shenay's 2004:

Reached 3R of the Nasdaq-100 Open (upset world No. 20 Fabiola Zuluaga on the way, l. to Dechy)
Qualified for Australian Open (l. 1r Svetlana Kuznetsova)
Qualified for Roland Garros, won first ever GS match (def. Obziler then l. Srebotnik)
Main Draw of a Grand Slam for her first time in her career at Wimbledon and US Open (l. Suarez - Wimbledon, l. Foretz - US Open)
Won 3 ITF Circuit Titles (ITF 50K Cary, Troy, Pittsburgh, 15 matches)
Reached 3R Birmingham (1st Ever Grass Tournament, upset No. 4 seeded Dokic as well as rising star Strycova)
Barely lost to Top-15 player Molik in Eastbourne Qualifying (2-6 6-3 5-7)
Reached 1st QF WTA Tour Event in her first tournament of the year in Auckland (l. Bartoli, took out Ruano Pasqual as well as Garbin - defeater of Henin-Hardenne)
Hard-court season was horrible coming up with some bad draws losing to good players (Schiavone, Golovin etc.)

So what do you think? Sink or float?

I think she has the game to be around the top 50 mark. She has good variety, but probably doesn't have the weapons or movement to really take out top players.

Go Anne Keothavong, Akgul Amanmuradova, Samantha Stosur, Na Li, Liga Dekmeijere, Tamarine Tanasugarn ,Jill Craybas, Daniela Hantuchova, Natalie Grandin, Kimiko Date-Krumm, Elena Baltacha, Melanie South, Dominika Cibulkova, Caroline Wozniacki, Jie Zheng, Andrea Petkovic, Elena Dementieva, Jelena Jankovic

I was impressed by her variety and her serve in Quebec..I'm thinking she could be top 50, but i don't see ehr as a huge threat to anybody in the top 30 in the near future!

Not good news! She had surgery on her knee and will be out 6-9 months! That's starting from the time of the surgery which was September! So, between March and June next year. She was just starting to play well too!

I think that Shenay will at least break into the bottom region of the Top50 - and take one or two small WTA titles.

She actually has huge groundies and a powerful serve. Problem is, she is extremely inconsistent and goes for too much. Her serve especially.

She had a spectacular Fall, going 16-1 in four Challenger events, but she lost easily to Sesil Karantancheva in Quebec, a match I really thought she would have won against the younger opponent.

2004 was definitely her best so far and I hope she trains harder for 2005 because at this point, she is the youngest hope Americans have right now.

I definetely think she is the youngest hope for American Tennis as well. I hope she plays against a high seeded player who can get her on TV at one of the Grand Slams (not too early though ) so that she can get more and more publicity and raise her profile as well as confidence.

The first time I heard Shenay Perry on TV was at the 2003 Arthur Ashe Kids Day but then in 2004 where she was hitting the most aces when Serena played vs. Silvija Talaja Mary Carillo mentioned her.

I hope this is a sign for more good to come, good luck in 2005 Shenay!

THE KID HAS TALENT!!!

She can go a long long way, but she just needs to drive as with a lot of talented people (thats you Miss Schyder). After seeing a lot of initial promise shes come out with a few baffling results to say the least. I just hope it was people getting to know her name and getting fired up to play her. I hope she will go onwards and upwards.
