Recap: 2004 USOPEN Venus' Forehand

Against Lindsay Davenport:

VW FH Winners..........18
VW FH Errors.............24

LD FH Winners............8
LD FH Errors...............8

I was sick recently so I had some time to watch the match again

Anyway Venus was being aggressive but made too many errors or I think she would have won. This is good news for 2005. Also she is not losing to noname players anymore lately...

The fact that Venus hit so many forehand winners should prove she can hit a good forehand but she just needs to control her errors.

2005=Venus' year!

Yes you re right, but it s not only her forehand errors. I just hope she can play as fast as she used to, and gain more free points with serve.

C'mon Vee!

I miss the old Venus....she had to be the greatest Tennis player I've seen with Serena being a close #2 ....she was just unbelievable man....you couldn't get ANYTHING past that child. I use to love it when she would obliverate balls midair! I hope we see that Venus AND Serena in 2005!

Venus and Serena ....Often imitated NEVER duplicated!!!!!!!

There werent any problems with her serve against Lin C. Venus was hitting 120s like a piece of cake. Lin C was forced to try to lob back Venus' serves.

It was a few FH errors which gave Lin C the match...

That was one of Venus' best matches all year. Lindsay was simply too good. That match was not a story of errors.

Right! GO VENUS!!

This is my 2005 Top 5 Rankings:

1-Venus Williams
2-Serena Williams
3-Lindsay Davenport
4-Amelie Mauresmo
5-Maria Sharapova

I think Justine and Kim may retire. Justine's mystery illness I think may force her out but Kim has herself to blame for playing 30 tournaments a year which is just crazy.

Yes it was. I watched the whole match over a few days ago.

Did you look at Venus' stats at the top??

Venus also "broke" herself when she was serving.
Venus would hit 120mph serve then make an error or hit a winner.
Lin C was just blocking back the serves and hoping for the best.

I've watched the match many times, and Venus' play was not poor at all.

That ratio on the FH is not bad at all for Venus.

I guess that if I just hit less FH errors, had more winners, and had better placement on my serve, I'd be #1.

Venus did not play her best. It was obvious as I said before.
Venus would hit a 120 serve and Lin C would lob it back and Venus would hit a winner or error. That is not Venus' best tennis.

Venus was right for not trying to "keep the ball in play." Venus has to go for winners against a monster power hitter like Lin C but Venus must be more consistent.

Case in point the final game. Venus had about 7 or 8 breakpoints but Venus gave that game to Lin C with some crucial errors.

Lin C doublefaulted 3 or 4 times. She was falling apart but Venus did not play well enough to capitalize on Lin C's mental breakdown...

Her BH was fine for the match, and a -6 ratio on the FH is not bad at all for Venus. She played very well. Lindsay played better. And Lindsay didn't just "lob the ball back". Venus' serve had power, but Lindsay can return power. Venus' serve was very good, but Lindsay's returns were the reason she was broken, not "lob" service returns.
