TC, I am sure maria is very tired at the end of a very long and very successful tennis year. And I hope her mom Yelena acts as Maria's mother and makes sure that Maria get's to take a nice vacation and get away from tennis. Masha's father Yuri seems to be a domineering father and that might not be good for Masha in the long run. The 2005 Australian Open is only 2 months away and Masha has played so much tennis this year. Much more than I expected. I hope she can get away from tennis and serious training for about a month. And I hope she can start 2005 feeling fresh and ready to go because she will be one of the hunted players nest year and I hope she can handle that pressure.

I hope Maria doesn't have to play too many exhibition matches in the short off-season. She looked so pale and exhausted in the YEC final.

Jaco, the key to Maria's future is not over working as a teenager. I hope IMG and her parents help her avoid burnout. Masha has had a very exhausting year and she needs a nice long vacation away from tennis and the pressure that comes along with being a top tennis player.

Imagine how well she would have played if she had been well rested, with a nice tan!!! The possibilities are frightening!!!

Cat: she deserves a month in Hawaii at least. i hope her father isn't so greedy that he focusses only on chasing the $$$.

Thats right cat..
Unfortunately next year will be at least as busy as this year if not more so...
They need to do more to ensure burn-out is never an issue..it would be a real shame if it did become a problem

Yuri likes her to practice and was reportedly annoyed when she took that time off after Wimbledon, while he was stuck in Russia.

It's really about getting the balance rght.

Too little play, and she loses her edge and gets prone to injury. Too much play and she gets drained and risks burnout. And it needs taking into account that a player who expects to reach QFs, Semis and Finals, is playing a lot more matches than someone attending the same number of tournaments but who rarely gets past the 2nd round.

So Maria should probably stick to around 20 or so tournaments next year with sensible spacing.

Sabine Lisicki, Maria Sharapova, Elena Dementieva,

Victoria Azarenka, Dinara Safina, Maria Kirilenko

Nadia Petrova, Samantha Stosur, Ana Ivanovic.
