Player of the Week - Vaidisova

How come no one posted this...Nicole was named Player of the Week. Finally the WTA is giving her the attention she deserves!

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan - If Nicole Vaidisova's title at Vancouver back in early August didn't capture enough attention, then perhaps her second title in three months was enough to start turning some heads.
The 15-year-old from the Czech Republic won the Tashkent Open on Sunday, her second career WTA Tour title with a 57 63 62 victory against Frenchwoman Virginie Razzano. Vaidisova has also been named this week's WTATour.com Player of the Week.

With a little more than a handful of WTA Tour events under her belt, Vaidisova continues to show she could quickly become a dominate force in the game. She now has a 29-7 record and has now improved her WTA Ranking to a career-best No.73 this week after being ranked outside the Top 100 the week prior.
Vaidisova first grabbed some attention at the Tour level back in February in Acapulco where she reached the quarterfinals in her debut. In August, Vaidisova qualified for the Tier V event at Vancouver and surprised many when she made it through to the final and eventually took the title with a victory against American Laura Granville.

Much like her finale at Tashkent, Vaidisova was down a set to Granville in that match before rising to the occasion to take the title.

Though she got off to a slow start in the Tashkent final, Vaidisova showed the grit and determination to keep playing throughout the two hour affair.

"It was a tough match," Vaidisova said. "I was a bit nervous, felt stiff, in the beginning. I wasn't moving well. She played very well, moved and served well at points, but in the end I overpowered her."

She began her week with a routine victory against Cara Black in the first round and then cruised past No.6 seed Anna-Lena Groenefeld to reach the quarterfinals. She got off to a slow start in the round of eight before eventually overcoming No.4 seed Arantxa Parra Santonja and then needed three sets to defeat No.2 seed Meghann Shaughnessy to reach her second final.
