Post Craziest match-points in history ?

Try to remember matches which ended in really memorable ways.

A few examples:

1987 - Wimbledon semi Martina N. vs. Chris Evert

Martina was leading 6-5 40-30 in the third set and served for the match. Chris hit a passing shot which touched the net, passed Martina and landed close to the side-line. It was called out, but Chris was sure that it was in and maybe expected Martina to admit that, which she didn't. I think they had a very cold handshake.

1988 - Masters final Boris Becker vs. Ivan Lendl

That match really went the distance - to the 5th set tie-break. Becker led 6-5 there and they had a long rally, I think the longest point of the whole match. And it ended with a really lucky net-cord for Becker.

2001 - Australian Open quarterfinal Clement vs. Kafelnikov

It was in the fourth set. Clement led with 2-1 sets. I think Kafelnikov had numerous chances to win that set (once he only had to put the ball over the net) but he failed. So it went to the tie-break and Clement let 6-3. Kafelnikov served, approached the net and played an unreachable volley - at least everyone thought that. But Clement was so fast that he reached it and played a high lob, and Kafelnikov netted the smash.
Great win (and great celebration) !

The only thing i can think of along these lines is Venus winning the olympics on an overule by the umpire kind of took away the whole feeling of winning!

Steffi vs. Serena at 1999 Indian Wells Final

An EXTREMELY tight match. On match point, there were about 20 heavy hit strokes from both players......both deep and eventually ended with Steffi hitting one long and Serena jumping into the air jubilantly.

The funniest was probably 1997 U.S. Open SF between Spirlea and Venus. Irina had match point in the 3rd set tiebreak, hit a good forehand crosscourt and was up at net but Venus in dead run somehow squeaked the backhand down the line. I swear, at least half of the ball was on the line and half of the ball was out but any part of the line the ball touches is IN.

Love both the pic and the dialogue, Go Monica!!!! 1990 was not a good year for fashion with these ladies.

The match you're thinking of GoMonica was The Bumblebee's comeback from match match down vs. Reggi. At match point Aranxcha hit an audacious drop shot winner from deep back. She went on to win.
The bumblebee had stung again.

LOL Rollo, I watched that match. Arantxa was BEHIND the baseline and it was a pretty long rally too. I swear Reggi looked p'oed and everyone could not believe it. I remember reading once that Arthur Ashe was watching the match as well and nearly "fell off his chair" or so to speak.

It has to be the 1999 US>OPEN third round tie Serena Williams against Jelena Dokic.

Serena served a 179kmh serve, now nobody in the crowd thought Jelena would make a return, but some how she made it.Serena then hit a fantastic backhand to which Jelena replied with a cross court forehand, the ball hit the top of the net, bounce off the umpires chair landed down Serena's dress. lol the look on the ballboys face when he had to retrieve the ball said it all, they replayed the point and Serena served an ace.
