Why is Myskina holding on to the Athens nightmare?

What was injured more, her pride or her confidence? Sounds alittle excessive to me, she has been playing long enough and has masterminded her own comebacks against other quality players. At the USO, she said she was still thinking about Athens yet she had beaten her first round opponent quite handily.
Serena came back against a red hot kim at AO 2003 from 5/1 down. It happens and could happen to anyone. She just blew a lead over not just any player but the word no.1 and top seed who until was injured was dominating the field.
This is what I am beginning to believe, it is probably not her confidence that has been hurt but her pride, she is probably reading the articles claiming she was lucky to win the FO. How then do you explain her losing to Amy frazier at wimbledon, this was before athens.
Thoughts anyone?

Rena- a tennis great! 22 at striking distance.

She lost to Frazier cuz she was tired from the post FO publicity stuff. Some players have a more difficult time with a tough loss. Hingis was 5-1 in GS finals before 99 FO and after she was 0-5. So yes difficult losses have a huge impact on a player's confidence and pride. Let's just hope she can get over at her own pace.

♥ Number ONE in my heart ♥
2004-2006 MYSKINA
2006-2011 JANKOVIC
2011- KVITOVA???

Honorable Mention: GOLOVIN, SAFAROVA, CIRSTEA

i think she'll bounce back soon; it IS a hit to her confidence that she was unable to do well at the olympics especially with all the talk of a russian sweep and such.
another answer to your question about the loss to frazier-- she may have been emotionally drained from winning the french coming from nowhere. plus, amy is a damn good player on fast surfaces, and she was just a little too good. hell, she gave maria a GREAT match, and maria was playing well enough to win the championship. a little bad luck i guess.
about the us open. her first opponent sucked miserably. i had the displeasure of watching that match, and the girl absolutely beat herself, and then she ran into someone playing well, and she didn't have a lot of confidence.

does anybody know EKATERINA GAMOVA? she's a russian volleyball player. she LOOKS just LIKE anastacia. she cried the most when they lost to CHINA in the Olympics Gold Medal Match '04... like myskina

Q. Now you are the No. 1 of your family, in this moment. DINARA SAFINA: Yeah (smiling).Q. Yes, it's true. Are you happy? DINARA SAFINA:
Yeah, very (smiling). No, I mean, you cannot compare me and my brother. I am No. 1, but when he will put
gasoline in himself, he will be again No. 1. But I have to enjoy my time at least when I am now No. 1 (smiling).

i think a bit of both. i expected much more than a second round at the USO.
i hope she gets out of it sooner than later. i'm tired of ALL my favorite players slumping.

And then she was back, that goddess-like creature, back to torment the souls of the good and distribute free samples of bacon to the bad.

Have you seen the russian volleyball coach? He is scary. He screams his head off at those poor girls, usually making them cry...

"I want to do things on my own terms, I can't have anything take me out.
I have never given up and it's important for me to prove to myself that I can do this, and to prove to me that i'm a champion.
If I were just to sit down, lay down and give in, then I wouldn't have any respect for myself."

I think losses like that are just tough to get through especially when it means so much. The same thing happened to Jen last year after she lost to Justine in the USO. When you want something soo bad and it was that close and you still lose, you can't help but think about it and it often leads to unsettling moments.

Thats true, matches like that when you SHOULD have won are tough to take. I'm sure Myskina will bounce back, she is a world class player, and i really like her.

I dont think it really affected her as much as everyone would like to think. Shes blown leads before and been perfectly fine, like when she was 5-0 up against Justine at the YEC and lost. I think its just people trying to think of excuses for her bad losses. Maybe she was just in bad form and her opponent was better?!

Dont you know how much the Olympics mean to her
thats why.
its not another ordinary tourn or even a slam where you can play 4 times a yr
thats why she was upset, its still hurting.

In 4 yrs time she might not get the chance to play in the Olympics
a week in tennis is a long time, never mind 4 yrs

Good luck to my favs

It affected her alot, she even admitted it at the US Open. You could see her crying at the Olympics as well, she may not get another chance again. And i think its perfectly justifiable that people are seeing whats up with her, since she is no 2 in the world and should not be losing to players of such poor quality.

She really seems to be so upset after that loss against Justine and I wouldn't really mind her...Anywayz,I never really liked Myskina before,I actually liked pretty much all the Russians except Nastya but since the olympics she has really strucked me with her honesty and respect towards other players,fans,....I can proudly say that I've become a new fan of hers and that I really hope she can bounce as soon as possible

Allez.

Yeah, I agree. The Olympics are something very special that you don't get many chances in. Who knows if that was her only chance at an Olympic medal? It depends on where is is in 4 years time. I'm sure that's why it takes a long time to get over.
