I would say Dementieva. She had a super-soft draw at the French and got lucky with the Smashnova withdrawal. And then she got a pretty soft U.S. Open draw, again benefitting from a withdrawal (Dechy).

I don't think Dementieva's USOpen draw was all that nice. Still, I think that Kutznesova was lucky that both Pierce and Davenport got injured during their matches, and that Petrova took Henin out.

I don't know...getting that withdrawal from Dechy in the 3rd round (who just made the finals at Pilot Penn) was pretty nice, especially b/c Elena was having some health problems. I doubt she makes the finals if she has to play that match.

Svetlana Kuznetsova. In my opinion she got really lucky that Lindsay Davenport was injured in their match last week.

She did get a bit lucky in that 1 match, but look at the rest of her year:

AO -- Henin-Hardenne (champion) in the R32 (very tough draw)
FO -- Myskina (champion) in R16 (very tough draw)
Wimbledon -- Razzano in round 1 (a pretty tough 1st round draw)

I think Kuznetsova definitely had a bit of luck at the USO. She didn't have to play JHH thanks to Petrova, and then she played an injured Davenport in the semis.

Anastasia Myskina

Yeah i agree, really doubt she would have won that match otherwise.

Capriati got lucky in one match, but in the end it didn't get her anywhere, so i wouldn't really think of her as lucky.

Myskina * Henin-Hardenne * Zvonerava

Davenport - Dementieva

Yeah, but she had really tough draws at 2 other Slams.
