Question Does anyone else think Elena choked?!?!?!

One of my former friends said that Elena was just so tired after Capriati and all this other BS.

Then he kept on saying "did you even watch the match???"

So my response:

I do think Elena choked. She was up 4-2 in the second set and served for 5-2!

Now,

Does anyone else consider that choking in a big match?

I don't think Elena choked at all. She was obviously tired, she didn't move as well, and she was injured. She faced an opponent who was smacking winners all over the court. That is anything but choking.

I totally agree. She must have choked - I can't think of anyone I'd bet on more to normally hold their serve at a time like that.

I think she choaked a little......she NEVER well i take that back ONE game she went after her shots and it was the game where she broke sveta to go up 4-2....the rest she was too defensive.......sveta helped in this with hitting good shots....and im not taking away anything from her she played great....but even when elena had short shots she placed em down the middle and not that hard either.....i dont know if this would have changed the outcome but it could have made it closer. I dont know if ANYONE could have beaten sveta yesterday

NOT putting anyone in here cause they lose....im cursing them.....in that case GO JUSTINE and SHARAPOVA!!
But if i were to wish luck to someone: i would like to see k-lina not sucking...and i would also wish luck to davenport...bartoli..ivanovic...hantuchova...demen tieva...kirilenko.......dulko...gullickson....pier ce...spears..mirza..Irvin...Peng...

i dont think she choked at all... elena played a good match in all aspects, she even served pretty well... but the one thing that wasnt working was her being aggressive, and the reason for that was because svetlana was completly overpowering her off the ground and elena seemed afraid to venture to net (though she did so well last two matches up there) ... elena was tired, injured, and outplayed by a better player at the time yesterday... playing like elena did against momo and jenn, elena would have won in straight sets

Nope. Just watch Jenn in last years semis against JuJu. No matter how politically correct people it may not be: SHE CHOKED...

Elena definitely played worse in the final than she did against jen and Amelie. She didn't attack, she didn't keep rushing the net, and she didn't hit her usual rush of forehand winners. You can see that from the stats. The big forehand only emerged once or twice. In other matches she had scores of forehand winners.

For whatever reason (injury, nerves,) Elena was playing "safe", and playing safe usually loses you the match.

Well I'm only a recently converted Elena fan if that helps!

I don't think she choked at all. The problem was, she was on the back foot nearly every point. I was urging her to hit some of the shots she had against Mauresmo or Capriati but she just couldn't. In those previous matches, she was often in control of the point and could therefore go for her shots, but against Sveta she was struggling to find a way into the point because the returns were too good - as was the serve.

I do think tiredness might have played a part (why oh why do they play the semis and final back to back?$), but Svetlana was simply the better player, not least because she was brave enough to attack the serve, something which neither Jennifer or Amelie were prepared to do.

Where did you think she choked in the match? Not being able to consolidate a break of serve in Elena's case just isn't choking imo. Its too poor for that, and usually she is only 50-50 to hold in any service game.

I'm not an Elena fan, I never have and probably never will be, but I don't think she choked because Elena puts tons of pressure on her return game. As a result, if her opponent can break her serve due to the free points they get off of double faults and hold their own serve they should win. That is what I saw last night Svetlana attack Elena's serve broke her serve and then was able to hold her own serve.
