Predict the '05 Major Champions & Finalists!

This is just for fun. Who do you think will win each major in '05 & who will they defeat in the finals? Heres my picks: (some are more like wishes)

AO- Venus over Clijsters-I would love to see these players battling each other for a major in top form.
FO- Justine over Mauresmo- The two best on clay with the best coming out on top. These two are an interesting matchup on any surface when Mauresmo can handle her nerves.
Wimby-Clijsters over Serena- Kim finally breaks through and wins her 1st major.
USO- Serena over Sharapova - Two of the hardest hitters and loudest grunters fight to a 3rdset tiebreak in front of a raucous NY crowd

YEC-Justine over Venus

My wish list:
Australian Open: Anastasia Myskina d. Elena Dementieva
French Open: Conchita Martinez d. Paola Suarez
Wimbledon: Silvia Farina Elia d. Ai Sugiyama
US Open: Chanda Rubin d. Patty Schnyder
YEC: Magdalena Maleeva d. Anastasia Myskina

Hey, no one said our picks have to be realistic

Best left-right combination by a German (and that includes Max Schmeling): Steffi Graf. All she did in 1987 was knock Navratilova out of #1 and try to knock Evert out of the sport. (Mike Lupica in "The Best and Worst of Tennis in 1987", World Tennis)

"A couple of years ago, we nicknamed Steffi Graf's forehand 'Jaws'. And that music would go perfectly when she starts running in to the net, swarming on that little ball." (JoAnne Russell, during the 1988 Wimbledon final between Graf and Navratilova)

2005 Australian Open: Serena over Monica- I think this will be an exciting match-up, but an open/shut match (Serena in two)

2005 French Open: Venus over Serena- After a slow season start, Venus will come ever closer to a career Grand Slam. This wil be their best match EVER (Venus 16-14 in the third...with no hands, or bad line calls, or faults given as aces to the other players.)

2005 Wimbledon: Serena over Maria- At the trophy ceremony Maria said Seran can have her plate back...she's gonna yank it back! (Serena in two)

2005 US Open: Serena over Venus- This will be the first Grand Slam since '03 OZ where both will be going in healthy and Serena will prevail again. (Serena in two)

2005 Year-End-Championships: Venus over Serena- Serena will be tired from her semi with Sharpova and a fresh Venus will triumph..but not without a fight (Venus in three)

2005 Year-End Top 5:
1. Serena Williams
2. Venus Williams
3. Justine Henin-Hardenne
4. Maria Sharapova
5. Kim Clijsters

Career Grand Slam in your 20s? Been there done that. Career golden slam your 30s?
There's only 1.
Serena.

I think that the only one that is far-fetched is the AO. I tried to keep them as realistic as possible. In a dream world, Davenport would win the FO to complete her career slam as well as the USO--bidding farewell on primetime television. Capriati would take the trophy at The All England Club, while Golovin would take her first slam in Australia. Yeah, those are really long shots. Even I won't hold my breath for those. Also, if Venus makes it past the Quarters at any Slam in 05, I would be shocked. She's lost her intensity.

-- Chris -- AIM: dieudevin -- Keeper of Henin's awe inspiring backhand, Davenports's three majors (and wins over the Williamses!) and Harkleroad's upsets.

Lindsay Davenport is god.

Proudly cheering on Davenport, Capriati, Shaughnessy, Golovin, Sprem, Dementieva, Clijsters, Henin-Hardenne, Rubin, Washington, Uberoi, Petrova, Zvonareva, Kuznetsova, Fernandez, Schnyder, Rodionova, Morariu, Kirlenko, Sharapova, Mauresmo, and Frazier!
