Justine. She really wasn't supposed to lose before the finals, or SF at least.
What went wrong I don't know.

MARIA SHARAPOVA: "Amélie, you know it doesn't really matter at this point. I mean, I'd love to, I mean, Amélie is No. 1 in the world. She's playing great tennis. You know, I love that challenge of going out there and competing against the best in the world."
You'd love to what, Maria?

I say the number one player and olympic champ going down in the fourth round is the biggest.

I agree...Justine can win when she is playing like crap...she's been playing crap all US Open but she has made it through as her opponents let themselves get intimidated. Petrova just was smart enough to sense a weakness and open up a can of whoop ass.

This was totally unexpected.

definately Anna Chakvetadze def. Myskina

Because we all know what Petrova is capable of and Justine still isn't 100%.

However no one outside of RR knows who Anna is

Petrova was is seeded within the top 16. This isn't a big upset.
On hype it would be Maria; but on paper it goes to Myskina losing
to the little smarty pants.

Definitely Anna Chakvetadze beating Myskina - since she was one of the top seeds and she lost to a qualifier so early in.

Myskina losing was no surprise - you just had to watch her lose the medal she wanted in athens.

Justine losing after doing so brilliantly in athens is a real surprise. Nadia just didn't play anything like that well on saturday and Justine nothing like as poorly.

Sveta beating Lindsay or Elena beating Momo will be more surprising still though.

Pierce

Myskina's win was a FLUKE @ best. She is still a Tier III level player, who on any given day can beat the top players, but she's not a top player.

Sharapova has the game to be #1 and Pierce was seeded 20 spots lower than her.

Then again I dunno. I don't think that there have been any REAL upsets.

Petrova is another any given day player and Justine is not 100% so......... I dunno.

Career Grand Slam in your 20s? Been there done that. Career golden slam your 30s?
There's only 1.
Been around the world, copped all 4 thrice.
