Women have it easier?

They only have to play best out of three when men have to play best out of five.

Why is it such an ignorant question? If it is, why have ppl been discussing it over n over again? I think thinking of this question as dumb is far dumber.
And whoever badrepped the starter of the thread whose repuation is already in fire after a mere debut post should know your just abusing your fake reputation which is totally the other way around in real life.

I hate 5 setters. They go on forever. I think thats why I don't like mens tennis as much. Partly because I never see it on tv because i don't have sky sports which means you don't really get a chance to like any of the players. And then every time I do see a mens match it lasts forever and you have to go out or do something and you never see the end of it.

...and 100 metre runners have it easier than marathon runners...and high jumpers have it easier than pole vaulters...

I'm pretty much the same with 5 setters... I have such AWFUL concentration. I am 'Channel Flipper' extraordinaire... I do like men's tennis but I don't really watch it so much.

(Women have it easier? Hmmm... I don't know - what about what a woman goes through physically and emotionally every month? I do not really know how to word this!! *squeak* That is not always easy... *shakes head* )

So long, signature...

I hate 5 hour 5 setters. The whole 5 set thing has got nothing to
do with modern tennis or this world we live in now.

Originally it was a 5 setter because tennis was for the rich
upper class who didn't hold jobs and could spend the entire day
watching a match. Same like cricket and golf, it's leisure sports
for the rich to kill time.

Tennis is a modern pro sport, people don't have the time to
spend 5 hours sitting watching a match in the sun.

Personally I think it should be 5 setters for the men only in
the semi finals and final. I think the women could try 1 best
of 5 set in the finals. Remember they did that once at the
WTA championships with LD -vs- Hingis.

I hope it does not sound like me trying to turn into devil's advocate here, but it seems that women marathon runners for example do not have similar problems or pole vaulters or pick almost any athletic competition.

women should not be paid as much etc....it is of course not the women's fault that the men's circuit is more competitive....but men and women are both doing the same sport but men simply have to win more sets
a professional player from denmark argued that marathon runners don't get paid more than other athletes and therefore men should not get more
howver, marathon running and 100m running are two different events
whereas men's and women's tennis are the same sport

as for the five sets - well that's what makes a slam special and sets higher demands for the male players' stamina and physique
however, I think that by playing just three sets and then playing a match every day ( like the olympics) a tournament would set the same high requirements for stamina etc
so my suggestion slams should be played in 10 days - one match every day and only three sets

five setters are just plain boring to the average audience. Most people don't sit around for 5 hours in front of the TV, it gets really tiring, unless you are a huge fan of one of the players. In my opinion, this is why tennis isn't as popular as other sports: it's way too long ( for men)

MARIA SHARAPOVA: "Amélie, you know it doesn't really matter at this point. I mean, I'd love to, I mean, Amélie is No. 1 in the world. She's playing great tennis. You know, I love that challenge of going out there and competing against the best in the world."
You'd love to what, Maria?
