I can't think of an upset when a top player wins the first set 7-6 and then loses the next 2 sets.

Usually, yes. Same for 7-5 or even 6-4.

Is Venus a "top player"? We will find out soon.

Are you referring to Seles beating Venus?

I'm talking about a real upset...

Oh. Well, to the WTAWorld consensus it was an upset. And to the other part, Venus was injured. Either way, rankings wise and H2H wise it was an upset.

When 2 top players are playing against each other, it did happen a couple of times... Like Graf against Seles at the French Open the last time they played against each other.

But, in a match like Bovina against Davenport (Bovina isn't really a "top players"), it's the kind of match you KNOW it's over after the first set tie-break. Mentally it's hard to lose a tie-break to a top player.

How about Myskina beating Hingis 6-7, 6-4, 6-0 in New Haven in 2002. Myskina wasn't a "top" player and Hingis was a "top player" at the time.

FUCK YOU, SEWTA.

I think it all depends on what type of player you are. The problem for most lower ranked players is that they throw everything they have in the first set and if they do lose it they are so tired mently and feel so down they cant keep up that level. It normaly happens if the lower ranked player wins the first set tie break as well.

That's a BIG reason why I really want Monica to go out with a BANG, in all her glory. My other equal-favourite didn't get to say a proper farewell.

That's true. She didn't play at the same level after Tokyo.

I know what you mean and it stinks... Either that, or the new guns that we both love need to step it up and pronto!!
