Post The Fuzz Busting Tennis Quiz 4

I was going to make this really tough, but decided against it. (It is the holiday season.) Scoring is: 4 points each for questions 1-20, and 1 point for each Yes/No answer in question 21. To give others a chance, I ask Zummi, Rollo, Big Lindsay, and Declan to withhold posting their answers until at least noon tomorrow (board time).

All questions pertain to women's tennis (singles) in the Open Era.

[*]Who holds the record for most consecutive times holding seed in the main draw of a WTA tournament. (No challengers, satellites, qualifying, exhibitions, Hopman Cup, etc.) Note: if a player is unseeded in a tournament, it neither adds to nor ends the streak.

[*]Taking #1 a step further, who holds the record for most consecutive times holding seed in the main draw of Tier 2 and above tournaments. (In other words, the big tourneys.)

[*]After her sex-change operation, Renee Richards joined the WTA tour at the age of 42, and played a handful of seasons. Thus it's no surprise that she holds the record for the oldest player in a slam in the open era. Other than Renee, who is the oldest woman to enter the singles competition at a Grand Slam in the open era?

[*]Obligatory silly question: which player changed her skirt on court during the 2001 US Open? (Also known as the "seeing if you were paying attention" question. )

[*]What is the nickname given to the series of junior tournaments Chanda Rubin sponsored?

[*]Has anyone ever held each of the top 8 seeding positions in Grand Slams? If so, who? (Must give all names for full credit.)

[*]If you counted every seeding a player has had in a Grand Slam, from #1 down, what is the record for the furthest down the list in which someone has held all of the seedings? And by whom?

[*]Who has held the most different Grand Slam seedings in the top 16, and how many?

[*]Who was the oldest player ever seeded at a slam, and her approx. age (Years and months)?

[*]Who has the biggest gap between first and last slam seedings, and how long was it?

[*]Who has been seeded the most times in slams, and how many times?

[*]Who has the most top 8 seedings in slams, and how many?

[*]Who has the most top 4 seedings in slams, and how many?

[*]Who has the most #1 seedings in slams, and how many?

[*]Who was seeded in the most consecutive slams, and how many?

[*]Who was seeded #1 in the most consecutive slams, and how many?

[*]Who was seeded the most consecutive years at the Australian Open?

[*]Who was seeded the most consecutive years at the French open?

[*]Who was seeded the most consecutive years at Wimbledon?

[*]Who was seeded the most consecutive years at the US Open?

[*]Yes or no for each of these. Have these players been seeded at a slam?

[*]Leslie Allen
[*]Jane "Peaches" Bartkowicz
[*]Yayuk Basuki
[*]Rene Blount
[*]Sandra Cecchini
[*]Natasha Chmyreva
[*]Monique di Maso
[*]Jeanne Evert
[*]Patty Fendick
[*]Gigi Fernandez
[*]Barbara Jordan
[*]Ann Kiyomura
[*]Betsy Nagelsen
[*]Eva Pfaff
[*]Joanne Russell
[*]Kazuko Sawamatsu
[*]Naoko Sawamatsu
[*]Pam Teeguarden
[*]Sharon Walsh-Pete
[*]Robin White

2nite I'll frustrate myself with this.

The only one I'm sure is the yes for #5 of #21: Wimbledon 1991. I made a research about Sandra when Silvia Farina was seeded at this year's Wimbledon exactly a decade after.

You'll be happy, Gandalf. With a couple of half-credits, you scored 22 (out of a possible 100). I'm not going to say which ones you got right. (That would spoil the fun.) I will say that you nearly reached your 10 point goal in question 21 alone.

Doctor G has 1 point.

You are both welcome to try to improve your scores.

Oh, and a point of clarification. The note for question #1 only applies to questions 1 and 2.

For questions 15-20, if a player skips a slam, it ends her string. I'm counting slams held for those questions.

BTW, a behind the scenes note: when I put the questions together, I only had the answers for questions 1-5 and 21 at hand. I had the data to tabulate the answers for the others, but didn't have the exact answers calculated yet. I figured it would be better that way, so I don't pick a lot of questions that feature certain players over other players. I have since calculated all the answers, and there were some surprises.

That's great!. Thanks a lot, Brian!!. The thing is, I answered many of thequestions at random, so I don't think I'll be able to improve my score.

Well, SK, with 2-point half credits for questions in which you got part of them right, you totalled 30 points, which puts you in the lead. You also got most of them right for question 21.

BTW, the ones I asked to temporarily sit out are now free to join in. Olly olly oxen free.

No one can beat 30 points? Tsk, tsk.
On Friday, I'll reveal which questions have been answered correctly (but not necessarily by whom ).

Anyone care to (re)try?

It's Friday, and as promised, I'll tell you which questions have been answered correctly (though not necessarily by whom).

# 1.

7 of the other 19 have been partially answered.

For #21, 16 of the 20 have been answered correctly.

Now you have some hint to build on. Time for some more guesses. We don't want to lose our title as most knowledgable tennis board.

Ok, I try again with some of them.

2-Monica Seles

3-Margaret Court

4-I try again...Iva Majoli (don't ask me why)

6-Arancha S. Vicario

17-Evert

18-Graf

19-King

20-Navratilova

Sorry, I have no clue about the number of times of the others, or about question 21.

We have a new leader! Rollo has 51 points. (Which I may bump to 53; he was really close on one second part of a question.) Once we get a few more people answering, I'll update the list of questions that have been answered correctly.
