How far can the newest Russians go?

The two least known Russians in the US Open this year have both made pretty good impressions. Linetskaya qualified and won her first ever MD match at a major. This may have been the first time she has won a match at a major including qualies. She has been doing well on the challenger circut and seems to be talented. I have seen her play. I would say her biggest weakness by far is her second serve. I mean, it's very Dementieva like and at times slower. She doesn't double fault a lot but just can't seem to get some pop on it. I think if she can improve that area of her game then she can get well into the top 50. I don't know if she can challenge at the level most of the Russians have but it will be interesting to see. I hope she can continue to do well and keep moving up.

I don't really know much about Chakvetadze but she's obviously got talent to take out Myskina. If someone could elaborate on her that would be great!

Anyways, how far do you think the newest "wave" of Russians can go?

I forgot that Linetskaya is only 15 or 16 too so she has tons of time to get going in her career.

It all depends on how consistent they are in the next year. It's too hard to say. I was really impressed by Anna today. I think she could go to the top 20 one day. Maybe even better.

Maria Kirilenko

Why is it that the world never remembered the name of Johann Gambolputty de von Ausfern-

Chakvetadze turns 18 in March. She has a lot of talent. She plays very smart tennis. She will rally with u for a while then acclerate on a shot with some nice angle and open the court for herself to have an easy put away. She is VERY quick and she volleys well. I dont know if she has a major weapon yet. She needs to develop one and some more power alond with a better second serve but I really think she could be at the top in the future.

Kirilenko turns 18 in January. She is very similar to Chakvetadze although she really uses all of her variety alot. She mixes it up so well. I think she needs to develop some more power. She has amazing timing and moves the ball around so well. He serve is solid but it could be bigger. She volleys and moves very well. She could also be at the top if she develops more power, works on the serve and creates that one big weapon, she really has the talent to do it.

Linetskaya turns 18 in November. She just goes for it off both sides. She really hits every ball as hard as she can. She does not vollery much but she really does not need to because her groundies are so big. She needs to work on her serve and getting more fit with her game style because you have to be really fit to hit the ball that hard consistently in a three set match. She is another one I see at the top with alot of talent.

All three could be top 20 and maybe even futher if they continue improving. They all have so much talent and are three of the future major russian prospects. When they turn 18 they will be able to play a full schedule and I hope they play a lot which will help them shoot up the rankings.

It's too early to tell for Chakvetadze and Linetskaya. It's hard to tell just from a couple of matches. You need to see how well they do against a few opponents. Although, I suppose taking down Myskina is a pretty good indication that Anna could do very well if she could keep it at that level. As for Kirilenko, I think she has the potential to be Top 10, but that won't mean shit until she gets hers together. I've never seen Linetskaya play.

I havent seen much of Linetskaya and Chakvetadze but from what i've seen they can go far. Top 50 for sure, and likely top 20. Eugenia has really good groundstrokes and hits with great power, and obviously has improved a lot since i last saw her.

I saw Anna for the first time against Myskina and was really impressed. She has good power off both sides, and i was really impressed with her BH (her FH looks weird), and her speed. Not only that, she knows when to go for winners and when to hold back, unlike some other young players like Vaidisova. Both of them made a really big rise up the rankings in the last year so i'd expect that to continue.

Saw Linetskaya at Junior Wimbledon a few years ago, when she wasn't being hyped at all... all the attention was on Sharapova and Douchevina. She really, really impressed me - technically very solid, willing to fight to the last point.

Kirilenko played superbly at Roland Garros, but her overall results this year have been abysmal, which suggests that she rarely brings that sort of display to the court. Of course she can learn to play at her best more often, but I think the pattern is set now. I don't think she'll ever be top 5, maybe not even top 10.

I've never seen Chakvetadze play.
