In grand slam, are there some players lucky?

This question came to my mind after the defeat of Myskina. Looking at Suarez draw, I just said to myself: "Gosh, always a high seed falling in her draw's section! "

Last year at US Open, she reached Quarter without playing against a seeded player.

This year she reached Wimbledon Quarter without playing against a seeded player.

This year she reached Semi in Roland Garros, but the first seeded player she played was in the Quarter Final match.

And now with Myskina out and Smashnova out, she could reach another Quarter without playing against a seeded player!!!

Do you know a player as lucky in Grand Slam, without being a top 8?

Luck is part of it, it's part of winning Oscars, too.

Luck has a lot to do with winning slams!

Off the top of my head, USO '99 Serena was let off the hook by Clijsters who led her 5-3 in the final set. Serena was lucky there and that spurred her onto the title. Serena at OZ '03 as well against Kim. I mean, part of it is skill, but luck, too.

01 AUS- Capriati almost lost in the first round and lucky for her, she beat Lindsay in the semi's. Lindsay was having a bad day or maybe she wasn't expecting too much from Jennifer, but Jen was lucky to win that day because she doesnt beat Lindsay too often. Of course Jen played probably the best ever that tournament.

Venus got some luck in 2000 or 2001 when she was getting schooled by Mary Jo at the USO and then she retired because she got injured mid-match. It sure looked like Fernandez was going to win that match. Again, luck. But luck is the most important factor. I believe Venus won it that year.

Myskina won the French with A LOT of luck. But hey, it happens and it's a legitimate factor in tennis.

It happens. Sometimes lower ranked players put out a top player. Sometimes your opponent just sucks. It's all about luck.
