The way the Chinese treat those who perform well in the Olympics, it seems like that would be more important to them than a major.

Do you know if China is giving some kind of reward to athletes who win medals? I know Russia is giving a monetary reward for each medal won.

They do give monetary incentive, I heard that they give out 250,000 RMB to gold medal winner and 250,000 more usually from local state. (don't quote me on that coz I heard from secondary source)

But the most important thing is that gold medal is value much more than in any other event and I believe that apply to tennis as well, they get much more coverage for olympic gold than anythin else, and that means loads more money from advertisement

It is a well known fact that the Chinese diving team became millionaires after Sydney Olympics as they went on a chinese tour of exhibition and from sponsors.
