Could Karo hit the ball earlier with more float and mix it up with some risky crisp hitting to completely bamboozle Muguruza's slow approach to hitting her tennis?
:speakles:
I have no idea but I'd rather not vote in a match so close.
^This. Last years YEC was so frustrating with how many leads she choked to everyone. Her head to head against Pliskova looks disastrous but in many of those losses Garbiñe had many chances. Pliskova said it herself at Indian Wells - Muguruza loses against her because she plays too passively at the end. Hoping for more of a Cincinnati approach. I'm not entirely convinced on her form here though, but it's hard to gauge that with the Ostapenko matchup. We'll see what happens.
Depends on the form of the day. Pliskova seems likely to be more laid back about her results here (the Czech coach melodrama is not relevant to the match), Garbine may be stressing a bit about YE #1 (even if she denies this).
My first thought is Pliskova, she seems to be playing well, although Venus made her look good.
Karo was seriously off in Cinci, but that win might help Garbine's confidence going into this match, so a Garbine win wouldn't surprise me (and i'd love it).
It is NID who was the more deserving #1 of both and so will it be also NID who will win this one. If Garbiñe plays bad she wins in three, if she plays good it is going to be a routine 2-setter. Pliskobot doesnt have variety needed to beat Muga!
You don't need variety to beat Mug. You just have to be basher - she always struggles against them. Pliskova, Keys, Sharapova, a hard-hitting Petra even your favourite old lady have leading H2H's against her.
I hope to God you're right but her group scares me because they all hit so hard. When she beats them she tends to be peaking (Cinci or Wimbledon for example) and I'm not sure she's in peak form atm, even if she is undoubtedly the more talented player.
Either Pliskova handily or Mug in a dogfight. Slower courts should favor Garbi, indoor setting will favor Karo. The Czech was far more convincing in her opening match, but something tells me Muguruza will want to make amends for last year.
