23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams has begun planning her wedding to fiance Alexis Ohanian in New Orleans. According to The Daily Mail, Williams and Ohanian took a trip to New Orleans from their base in Florida to meet with their wedding planner and spent the day there.
Williams gave birth to her daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr. six weeks ago. The ceremony is planned for later this fall and the couple visited several prospective venues around New Orleans during their day trip with their pet, Chip, alongside as well.
The couple also spent some time inside the posh restaurant Meril during their day trip.
Meril's is a "casual" Emeril Lagasse restaurant in Nawlins. We went to his place on Tchoupitoulas Street when we were there. First class service and food.
Yes, I'd be shocked if she's considering Meril as a venue or as a food option. The food is very good, but the restaurant is certainly not wedding formal.
Either way, New Orleans is among the best cities in the world and I think it'd be fantastic if they got married there
Two multi-millionaires who can easily afford to have their wedding anywhere in the world and they chose New Orleans. Seems strange to me. But maybe the city has special significance to one or both of them.
New Orleans is the perfect place for a wedding! My sister got married on the Steamboat Natchez in New Orleans and it was the most fun I've ever had at a wedding.
This is Alexis and Serena’s 3rd trip (at least) to New Orleans this year. When they made similar short trips there earlier this year I wondered why as there was no obvious context to the trips. Saw the original article about this earlier this week and it all made sense.
They are both huge fans of the city; Alexis especially so not that surprising (assuming they are indeed getting married there).
As someone that has been to New Orleans many times, the food is amazing. So if food was the most important thing about your wedding, then you can't beat New Orleans.
But, if you want scenic locales, and FRESH AIR....New Orleans would be one of the last places I'd want to get married. The city smells bad, combine humidity + beer + a dirty river, and bourbon street is a shithole. The town has some nice older buildings, but I was more impressed with the buildings in San Juan Puerto Rico which were similar.
New Orleans is more of a weekend getaway - sample great food, drink in some bars, and then leave. Not a marriage destination.
